PLOW-POINT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1911.
Application filed August 4, 1910. Serial No. 575,435.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A. C. SOHMUCI-rER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pierre, in the county of Hughes and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plows the primary object being to provide a point which may be readily and quickly detached from the share for the purpose of sharpening.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the same that the point when in position will be rigidly secured to the moldboard.
With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that the changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow with the point in position. Fig. 2 a detail view of the point and Fig. 3 a detail view showing the manner of securing the point to a walking plow. Fig. 4: a top plan View of the point.
1 designates the plow point the face of which is of the usual configuration. The rear portion of said point is formed with flanges 2 and 3 which are adapted to embrace the standard 4 of the plow. The projections 5 and 6 which extend from said point are adapted to enter the opening 6 in the standard 4. These projections are provided with openings 7 and 8 adjacent their end portions in which are inserted pins 9 and 10 which retain the point rigidly upon the member 4. The projections 5 and 6 are adapted to extend entirely through the standard in order that the pins may be readily inserted.
In placing the point in position the beveled edge portions of the standard are inserted beneath the flanges 2 which are bent to conform to the shape of said member. The pins are then inserted within the open ings formed in the projection 6 thereby securely locking the point in position.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that such a device is not only quickly and securely placed in position but the same is also so constructed as to be easily and economically manufactured.
What is claimed is:
The combination with the standard of a plow having openings therethrough, of a plow point comprising a trapezium-shaped body portion, a flange extending from one of the longer sides, a flange extending from one; of the sides adjacent the said longer side, perforated lugs extending perpendicw larly from the side of the body portion opposite said longer side, said lugs lying in the same plane as the body portion and adapted to enter the openings in the standard, and cross pins in the perforations of the lugs.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ABRAHAM C. SCHMUCHER.
