Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED A. BRESSMER, a resident of Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful'Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a plow in which the share may be easily and quickly attached to and detached from the moldboard.

The invention is exemplified in the structure hereinafter described, and it is defined in the appended claims.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan of the under side of a plow-bottom constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the upper surface of the plow-bottom. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the plow-bottom on the land side thereof, showing the share partly separated from the moldboard. Fig. 4 is a plan of the upper surface of the share. Fig. 5 is a plan of the under surface of the moldboard. Fig. 6 is a plan of the under surface of the share. Fig. 7 is a detail of the mechanism used to connect the'share with the moldboard, showing a connection 7 partly completed; and Fig. 8 is a section of the same mechanism, showing the connection completed.

The gist of the idea is to secure the share to the moldboard without the use of bolts and in a manner to permit quick and easy attachment and detachment.

The share 1 and thelandside part 2'are made in one piece, and the moldboard 3 and landside 4 are made in another piece. Hitch-blocks 5 are formed on the under surface of the share, and bails 7 are pivotally conjoined to lugs formed on the hitch-blocks 5. Hitch-blocks 6 are formed on the under surface of the moldboard, and lock-levers 8 are pivotally connected with the hitch blocks 6. The lock levers have eyes 9 formed on their swinging ends, and hooks 10 are secured to hitch-blocks 6 and adapted to engage the eyes of the lock-lever.

The conjoining edges of the share and the moldboard are beveled, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8, and notched or rabbeted, as shown in Fig. 2. The conj oining ends of parts 2 and 4 of the landside are rabbeted, as shown in Fig. 3, and the hitch-blocks are also rabbeted at their conjoining ends. The rabbets are formed to permit the share to be slid into position against the moldboard, and they partake of the nature of sockets and tenons to hold the parts against lateral displacement.

After the parts are slid together, as shown in Fig. 7, the bails 7 are swung over the locklevers, the lock-levers are swung into locking positions, as shown in Fig. 8, and the hooks 10 are swung into engagement with the eyes of the lock-levers, thus making a secure connection between the share and the moldboard.

The connection is easily made in a very short time, and when it is desired to disconnect the share from the moldboard for sharpening or other purpose the disconnection may be as easily and quickly effected by simply reversing the described operation.

It is obvious that the shape and proportion of the various details may be modified considerably without departing from the principle of the invention, and I therefore do not confine myself to the precise construction shown and described.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a plow, the combination of a share and a moldboard each having hitch-blocks formed on its under surface, bails swingably secured to the hitch-blocks of the share, locklevers pivotally secured to the hitch-blocks of the moldboard, eyes in the swinging ends of the lock-levers and hooks connected with the hitch-blocks of the moldboard and adapted to engage the eyes of the lock-levers.

In a plow, the combination of a share and a moldboard both having interjoining hitch-blocks formed on their under surfaces, and eachbeing notched or rabbeted to conj oin with the other, bails swingably secured to the hitch-blocks of the share, lock-levers pivotally secured to the hitch-blocks of the moldboard, eyes in the swinging ends of the locklevers and hooks connected with the hitch blocks of the moldboard and adapted to engage the eyes of the lock-levers.
