Description
tlnitr'd i (mes @strut @Wina Letters .Patent No. 99,416, dated February 1, 1870.
Theschedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all 'whom it nza/y concern Be it known that I, THEODORE R. DUNHAM, of Newark', `in the county of Essex, and in the State of N ew Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glasps for Trunks, Valises, 85o.; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making ai part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the corstrucstruction and arrangement of a clasp or elastic catch for trunks, valises, bags, and other articles.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I
will now proceedl to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure lis a front view, and
Figure 2,tvertical longitudinal sections of my clasp or catch.
A represents a piece of elastic, doubled `or single, which elastic passes through a loop, a, which is a part of the catch B.
This catch can be constructed of one or more pieces,
connected, so that the elastic A passes'through one end; and on Athe other, a leather loop, C, is securely may be operated.
The catch proper is made 'of brass or other suitable met-al, strucknp, or cast, and provided with two projections, b b, which, when the loop is drawn over and downward by the hand, catches in the under fastening D, which consists of a piece of metal, fastened in any suitable manner, and provided with a lug, d, on either side, in which the projections b attach themselves.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The catch B, constructed as described, withv side projections b b, and having the elastic A and loop O attached on either end, substantially as herein set forth,'with the fastening D, provided with lugs d d, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the elastic A, catchB, projections b b, loop C, with the fastening D, audlugs d d, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 8th dayof November, 1869.
Witnesses: THEODORE R. DUN HAM.
WM. P. MILLER, WM. 1I. Moses.
