IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLES AND STRAP-LOOPS FOR SATCHELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,482, dated December 8, 1874; application filed October 31, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS SOHWERIN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments to Satchels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My improvement relates to an improved attachment to satchels; and consists in casting in a single piece the handle and shoulder-strap t'astenin gs or attachments, in order to eheapen their cost, lessen the labor of securing them to the frame, and to dispense with the rings in the ends of the handle.
The accompanying drawing represents my invention.
a represents the metal frame of a carpetbag or satchel. Firmly riveted to its upper side by the projecting ends or flanges b is the casting 0,-through which are made the two openings 0 and d. The one rounded at the top, 0, is intended for the spring-hook or other fastening of the shoulder-strap g, and the ad joining part, d, square at its upper side for the handle 13 of the satchel.
By casting these two attachments in a single piece, not only is the handle attached to the casting without the means of the usual ring, but their cost cheapened, the two are made stronger, can be more quickly attached, and do not weaken the frame as much by requiring so many holes through it as when they are made separately.
