Description

waited gime @met @Wire Letters Patent No. 99,263, dated January 25, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIND OW-BUTTONS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ci the same.
To all whom yit may concer-n Be it known that I, S. CURTIS TRUBEE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvement in VVindow-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to devices for fastening windows; and
The invention consists in a notched button or latch, arranged to engage with and hold the ordinary fastening in position, and prevent it from heilig opened or unloosed by burgla-rs, as hereinafter explained.
. Figure l is a top plan view of an ordinary windowfastening, with my improvement applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section, on the line z :v of fig. 1.
` In the drawings- The parts A, B, and C, representan ordinary window-fastening, which serves to lock the upper and lower sash together, and thus prevents them from being raised or lowered. i
This device, heilig well known to the trade and the public, need not be furtherspecially described.
In applying it to windows, the part -A is secured to inner upper surface ofthe bottom rail of the upper sash, and the part Bis secured to the upper surface of the top rail of the lower sash, the' locking-lever O,
. when the partsare locked, standing at a right angle across the joint or crack between the rails of the-two sash.
It is obvious, that when thus arranged, a knifeblade.1 or similar tool, can be inserted between the sash, from the ,outside and thelever O be thereby pushed to one side, thus unlocking the wind ow. It is to provide a cheap and eiiicient means of preventing this that my invention is intended.
'Io accomplish this, I construct a Isimple button or -latch, D, which hasa hole in one end to receive aY screw, a, by which it can he pivoted and secured upon lthe top rail of the inner sash, as represented in fig. 1.
This latch D has a notch, e, on its inner edge, near the opposite end, of' proper size to receive and hold the outer end of the locking-lever C, the latch D being so located as to bring the notch cinto proper position to engage 'w ith the lever C, when the latter is inv position to lock the sash together, as represented in the drawings.
Io release the lever O, it is only necessary to throw the latch D hack, as represented in dotted lines in
