Description

thttd 535mm CHARLES W. `MOSHER,l 0F EAST LEN, NEW' YORK.
Letters Patent No. 98,9Q2,
mammary A18, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN LIFTING-JACKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. MosHER, of East Leon, in the county of Cattaraugus, and State of Newr York, have invented a new and improved Wagon-Jack; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, `clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make andinse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part ot' this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lifting'- j'acks; and
It consists in a combination, on a platform, of a vertical hollowstand or tube, having a long vertical slot, extending from the plat-form upward; a vertically moving piston iu thesaid hollow stand, composed of a tube and a rod, adjustable as to length; and a T- headed operating lever and iction-roller, connected to the lower end of the piston, the said roller operating as a movable fnlcrum for the lever, which, being worked up and down, will cause the head of the lever to assume either a vertical or horizontal position, thereby raising or lowering the piston ou the top of which the weight rests, all substantially as herein specified. -v
The drawing represents a sectional elevation 'of my improved jack.
A is the platform or bed, consisting of a strong plank, of wood.
Bis the vertical hollow stand, in which a piston,
composed of the rod C and tube D, is arranged to work up and down, and for adjustment on each other for varying the height of the head E, which supports the weight, by means of the pin F passing through the holes G in the tube, and above the top of the rod.
This rod C is jointed, at the lower end, to one end of a T-headed lever, H, working in the slot I, at the bottom ot' the stand, and having a friction-roller, K, journaled at the other end of the bead, and ou which it rolls underthe piston, to raise it, when the lever is brought down and from under it; when the lever is raised to let the piston down, the said lever swings on the pivot-joint L, with the piston. 4
This arrangement provides a very cheap, simple, and durable lifting-jack, applicable for many uses.
Having -thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by ,Let-ters Patentl v The combination and arrangement of the bed A, hollow slotted stand B, piston C D, pin F, lever H, and roller K, all substantially as specified.
rlhe above specification of my invention signed by me, this day of 1869.
' I G. W. MOSHER.
