COMBINED MOP HEAD AND WRINGER.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, Gnonon S. WHITE, citizen of the United States, residing at Holden, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Heads and \Vringers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in combined mops and wringers, and the invention hasfor its primary object a simple, durable and cilicient construction of mop, in which the scrubbing material may be held under the proper tension to secure the best results, in which the holder is arranged for two cloths that may be quickly and easily secured thereto and detached therefrom whenever necessary, and in which there is embodied improved means for simultaneously wringing both of the mop cloths.

With this and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following de scription and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved mop; Fig. 2 is a detail top plan View of the cloth carrying frame; Fig. 3 is a detail view of the head of the device; and, Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view through a portion of the head.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawing, the letter A designates the mop holding frame of my invention. This frame embodies an elongated body portion 1 which may be composed of cast metal or any other desired material or substance, and forwardly and rearwardly extending

2 and 3 welded or otherwise secured, preferably integrally, to the front and rear ends of the body portion 1. The

2 and 3 are preferably formed of wire, and the arm 2 is bent laterally and reversely curved and returned upon itself to cross the front end of the arm 2, whereby to form two substantially parallel members 4, the wire being further extended Specification of Letters Patent.

and correspondingly curved to form complemental members 5, and the extremity of the wire being spaced from the front end of the arm 2, as indicated at 6. These laterally bent portions of the arm 2 make up an open loop 13 which is transversely elongated, as clearly illustrated in the drawing, and preferably the foremost member of the loop composed of the complemcntal parts 4 and 5 is inwardly olf-set at its middle, as indicated at 7, whereby two mop cloths may be slipped over the two laterally extending ends of the loop and be securely held thereon owing to the provision particularly of this depression or inwardly off-set portion 7. By the provision of a loop of this character, it is manifest that the two forward ends of the mop cloths may be held with equal facility and secured at both of their side edges and that they will be snugly hold together along their side edges at their ends so as to overlap to a certain extent; and provide an unbroken or uninterrupted and undivided scrubbing surface. The rear end of the arm 3 is bent to form :1 preferably closed loop 8 which is laterally elongated, as shown, and under which the rear ends of the mop cloths are passed, the loops holding the cloths properly under tension to provide asubstantially level scrubbing surface and being assisted in this action by intermediate braces 9, which are preferably formed by wires secured at their ends to the side edges of the body portion 1 and extending laterally therefrom in opposite directions, as shown.

The body portion 1 is formed with an intermediate bulged part 10 which is transversely apertured, as shown, to receive a pivot pin or stud passing through a fork 11 which straddles this bulged portion and which is secured to one end of an extension arm or rod 12. The rod 12 is intended to be passed into a longitudinally extending opening or bore 13 formed in the head C of the device, being secured in said opening and thus connected to the head by means of a pin or the like passed partially through the head and into an aperture formed in the rear end of the extension rod. The head C may be formed with or secured to any desired construction of handle 14. The head is provided at one side with an enlargement 15, said enlargement being formed with a substantially vertically extending opening in which a crank handle 16 is mounted, said handle carrying a pinion 17 which meshes with a pinion 18 mounted to move with a hook 19. The pinion 18 meshes with an other pinion 2O movable with a hook 21. These hooks are mounted for a revoluble movement in fork members 22 which are extended perpendicularly from the lower end of the head C, as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The

shown, and are designed to have the rear end of the mop cloths secured thereto so that by turning the crank handle 16, both the loop 8 and secured to the hooks 19 and I opposite 21. The mop frame with the mop cloths secured thereto is then moved over the surface of the floor or the like, the pivotal connec tion of the frame with the extension arm 12 of the handle or head 0, facilitating this operation, and the cloths being held properly under tension by the specific construction and arrangement of parts of the frame. Whenever it is desired to wring the cloths, this operation may be easily performed by merely turning the crank handle 16, whereupon the

19 and 21 will be turned in directions and the mop cloths twisted.

While I have herein shown and described one embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto, but that various changes may be made in the construction, arrangement and proportions of the parts without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what isclaimed as new is:

' 1. A combined mop head and wringer, comprising a mop holding frame including a body portion, an arm connected thereto and extending forwardly therefrom, a laterally elongated loop formed on the forward end of said arm, the loop being provided in its front end at the middle thereof with an inwardly offset portion, cloth holding hooks, a handle supporting said hooks, means for rotating the hooks and a connection between the handle and the frame.

2. A combined mop head and wringer, comprising a frame including an intermediate body portion, forwardly and rearwardly extending arms connected thereto, a laterally elongated loop connected to the forwardly extending arm at the front end thereof, a loop carried by the rearwardly extending arm at the rear end thereof, and braces secured to the body portion at opposite sides of the latter and extending laterally in opposite directions from said body portion, cloth holding hooks, a handle supporting said hooks, means for rotating said hooks, and a connection between the handle and the frame.
