To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUST PETER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Suspending Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a garment suspending device, and its object is to provide an ever-ready article of this character which is simple of construction, inexpensive of construction adapted to be conveniently carried in the pocket, and susceptible of application to supports of various kinds to suspend a garment or article therefrom.

The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a garment suspending device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation. Fig. 4: is a side View illustrating the mode of use of the device. Fig. 5 is a detail view, showing the impaling pins disposed between the arms to enable the device to be carried in the pocket.

In carrying my invention into practice, I provide a garment suspending device 1 preferably made from a single length of spring wire, nickel-plated or otherwise covered to prevent it from rust and to give it an ornamental appearance.

As shown, the wire is bent to provide a pair of approximately parallel longitudinally curved arms 2, which are of equal length and are connected at one end by an intermediate portion of the length of wire, which is bent to provide a suspending hook 3. The hook 3 projects from the rear side of the lower ends of the arms, and from the upper ends of said arms the extremities of the wire are bent forwardly, downwardly and rearwardly to provide a pair of impaling pins 4 having pointed or sharpened free ends 5. The extremities of the wires so bent to provide the impaling pins are curved into substantially loop-form, and extend diagonally to and downwardly upon the outer sides of and across the arms 2, the

pointed ends 5 of said impaling pins projecting beyond the rear sides of said arms above the suspending hook 3.

The wire of which the device is formed permits the impaling pins to be sprung forwardly so as to project the pins 5 between the arms 2, as shown in Fig. 5, in which position said points will be partially guarded or shielded by the arms and the hook 3, allowing the device to be conveniently carried in the pocket without liability of the points catching into the lining of the pocket or injuring the fingers of the operator in in serting and withdrawing the device from the pocket. When it is desired to use the articles, the impaling pins may be sprung forwardly to project on the outer sides of the arms 2 for use, as will be readily understood.

In the use of the device, the hook 3 is engaged with any suitable portion of the garment or article to be suspended, such as the suspending strap 6 of a coat 7 the rear portion of the suspending member brought into proximity to a support, such as a board, wooden post or like support, and the upper ends of the impaling pins pressed rearwardly, so as to force the points 5 of said pins into the support, by which the device will be held firmly in position to suspend the article. \Vhen it is desired to release the article, the loop-shaped members of the device may be engaged between the thumb and finger and an outward pulling pressure exerted to withdraw the points of the pins. In such manner, the suspending device may be used to support the garment from convenient articles of various kindseven from brick walls, as the points of the impaling pins may be forced into the mortar between the edges of the bricks.

It will be seen from the foregoing description that a handy and convenient suspending device for the purpose set forth is provided, and that resilient loops formed by the portions constituting the impaling pins enables said pins to be readily manipulated in the manner described.

Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A garment suspending device comprising a single length of wire bent to form a pair of arms, a hook connecting the arms at one end, and impaling pins extending from the opposite ends of the arms and crossing the same at a point above the hook.

2. A garment suspending device comprising a single length of wire bent to provide a pair of longitudinally curved arms, a hook extending rearwardly from the lower ends of the arms, and impaling pins extending forwardly and downwardly from the upper ends of the arms in the shape of resilient loops, said pins having their free ends extending diagonally across the arms and terminating in pointed extremities arranged above the hook.
