BATH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1911.
Application filed December 13, 1909. Serial No. 532,746.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT SCHMIDT, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and resident of Schreiberhau, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus to be used with baths and consists in an adjustable seat.
The apparatus permits the adjustment of the length of the bath to the size of the person who wants to take a bath and it further serves to support the back of the bather. The apparatus is therefore very useful for patients.
In the drawings the apparatus is shown by way of example.
Figure l is a longitudinal section of the apparatus mounted in a bath. Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line II of Fig. 1.
The apparatus consists of the and of the means for adjustabl 1 mounting and fixing the seat in the bath. The seat is composed of two curved bars a, a and of cross laths b fixed upon said bars in any suitable manner. The lower end of the seat is of a size and shape corresponding with the size and shape of the bath for which the seat is destined. A series of hooks g are fixed on the rear of the bars a.
The adjustable means for mounting and fixing the seat in the bath consists of a cross bar (Z with felt pads f at both ends destined to be placed across the bath, so that its ends rest upon the rim of the bath. To said cross bar 01 a longitudinal rail 6 is fixed which is adjustably mounted in a sliding piece 2'. This sliding piece 2' is adjustable in the sleeve h adapted to be fixed upon the rim of the bath. The longitudinal rail 6 has a slot m through which passes the clamping screw Z whose lower end bears upon the bot-- tom of the sliding piece 2'. Said screw Z can seat proper be tightened by means of the nut k so that the longitudinal rail 6 is fixed in the sliding piece 2' and this sliding piece in the guide sleeve h. The sleeve it has two downwardly projecting arms 8 and 0 which are situated the one s in front of and the other 0 behind the wall of the bath 0. In the arm 0 a cam n is mounted adapted to be turned by means of the hand lever 29 so that it acts upon a pad 9 of suitable elastic material fixed upon the free end of an arm 1". In the free end of the gripping arm 8 a pad t of elastic material is fixed destined to bear against the inner surface of the wall of the bath.
The adjustable seat can be rapidly mounted in the bath and it can be quickly removed after the hand lever J has been turned so that the gripping device (cam n and pad are withdrawn from the wall of the bath.
I claim z- An improved adjustable seat for baths comprising in combination the seat proper consisting of curved bars and cross laths fixed upon said curved bars, and the means for adjusting the seat and for fixing the same in the bath consisting of a cross bar to be placed across the bath, pads of elastic material at the ends of the cross bar destined to bear upon the rim of the bath, and of a longitudinal slotted rail, of a sliding piece in which said slotted rail is mounted and of a sleeve for said sliding piece; means for fixing the rail in the sliding piece and in the sleeve and means for fixing said sleeve on the bath said means consisting of a downwardly projecting front arm and of a downwardly projecting rear arm of the sleeve, a cam mounted in the end of said rear arm and a hand lever fixed upon the axle of the cam, an elastic arm in front of said rear arm and a pad of elastic material at the end of said elastic arm and destined to be pressed against the wall of the bath by means of said cam, and a pad of elastic material at the end of the front arm of the sleeve destined to be pressed against the wall of the bath opposite said first pad, substantially as described and illustrated.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT SCHMIDT.
Witnesses:
Josnr WETTIG, RUDOLPH FRICKE.
