Letters Patent No. 98,605, cla-ted January 4, 1870.
IMPROVED WIN DOW-JACK.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sa-xne.
To all whom it may concern l Be it known that I, S. P. LOOMIS, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Window-Jack; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof', 'which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section ofmy improved window-jack.
Figure 2 is an inverted plan View of the same. Similar letter-slof reference indicate'corresponding parts. 1
This ,invention relates to certain improvements on the window-jack, for which Letters Pat-ent, No. 71,027, were granted to me on the 19th day of November,
The invention hasfor its object tosimplify the construction of the window-jack, and to allow the same to be readily folded together'.
The invention consists in the general arrangement Vof parts, and more'particularly'in the application of der side, secured ribsala., which hold the pivot-pins b' for the outer bracket B.
This outer bracket is composed of two or more legs c c, which are pivoted to the ribs a, and which are or may be connected with each other by a cross-bar, d. "A'chain or rppe, e, connects the lower part of the bracket B with the platform, to retain the bracket in the propel' positions.
The upper ends of the legsc are vmade to lit into mortises ormed in the under side of the platform, when the device is applied.
The bevelled lower ends ofthe said legs are then in a vertical position to tit lagainst the ou'ter wall, as shown by black lines in iig. l.
G represents the inner bracket or slide. It is a suitable slotted frame, fitted -upon the inner part of the platform, so that it can slide on the same.
It can be locked to the platform in any position, .by
means of one or more pins f f, tted through apertures ofthe platform, as shown. l
The device is applied by placing the platform through Y a window, and by drawing it in until the ends of the legs c fit against the outer wall. The slide C is then adjusted within the room, until it fits against the wall on the inside, and is then locked. The platform is thus securely arranged to support a person on its outer part.
.In case there are benches or other devices in the way of theslide G, the saine may be reversed, as by red lines in iig. `l, to project upward from the platform.
The device is easily folded together by swinging the frame B against the under side of the platfornnand by tit-ting the frame G in a horizontal direction upon the platform, as in 1.
To enable this arrangement, the frame C basa slot, g. which, in `the ordinary position, is above the platform, but which may be used to tit the frame upon the platform, as in fig. 2, in which position G will rest tlush on the under side of A.
A cross-bar, h, on the frame (l, fitting over the-ends `of the legs c, will keep the frame B in the folded-up position.
The pins f may also be used to lock the frame G, when thus fitted upon the platform.
T he apparatus is very convenient, as it can be readily applied to all windows, and as it is readily packed together and conveyed` Having thus described my invent-ion,
What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The slide or bracket C, when provided with double 'slots to allow its being adjusted on the platform A in a vertical or horizontal position, and, when reversible, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The window-jack, consisting of the platform A, pivoted outer' bracket B, and inner reversible slide C, all arranged and operating substantially as herein shownand described.-` r
The'above specification of my invention signedby me,.this 17th day ofMay,.1 869.
