Description

F.W.T EST. Window Flower Svclncl" No.l 121,972. Patented Dec.19,1a71.
u UNITED STATES 'PATENT OEEIoEo FRANCIS W. TEST, OF CHICAGO, ILLIOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWER-STANDS FOR WINDOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,972, dated December 19,1871 antedated December 12, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS W. TEST, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a J ardiniere or Flower-Stand for Windows; and I do declare that the following is a true and accn rate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1 shows, in perspective, my device as secured 'to an open window; and Fig. 2 the device detached and partially folded up.
Like let-ters refer to like parts in each figure.
l The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a jardinire or iiower-stand in such a manner that the same may be readily secured to a Window-frame, within or Without the apartment, and readily detached and compactly folded into a small compass when not required for use. The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the various parts, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a window-frame, B the lower and C the upper sash thereof, all of ordinary construction. D is a light wooden bar, sufficiently lon g to enter the grooves in which the lower sash slides, and to each end of which another bar, D', is pivoted. The outer edges of the bars D are rabbeted, as shown, to receive the side bars E, which are pivoted near the ends of a cross-bar, F, Whose ends are inserted in the grooves of the lower sash. The upper ends of -the bars D' are secured to the cross-bar F by the pins or bolts a.. On the back side of each sidebar E a stop, b, is secured, on which the sash rests to secure the frame in place. G are brackets, secured to the side bars E in any convenient number, to receive and sustain the movable shelves H, on which the iiower-pots are placed.
Vith the above-described4 arrangement the Window is necessarily open, but the frames and shelves may be arranged externally and the window closed by securing the frames in the grooves in which the upper sash slides.
When not required for use the device may be compactly folded up in a manner too easily seen by reference to the drawing to require explanation.
B y providing the bars D with acouple of hooks the device may rest on the iioor and be secured to the wash or base-board.
The device may be secured in the upper half of the window-frame, the cross-bar resting on the lower sash when the latter is down.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction and arrangement of the bars D, D', and F, slide-bars E, stops b, pins a, brackets G, and shelves H, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
l FRANCIS W. TEST.
