To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CHARLES A. GRAUL A and DANIEL Z. SHAW, citizens of the United vis States, residing at MountuPleasant, in the countycf NVestmoreland and. State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented a new and useful Window-Seat, of which the following is a specification. t

The invention relates to improvements in Window seats.'

The object of the present invention is to provide a secure seat or stand adapted to be readily attached to any window to enable the exterior of the same to be conveniently Washed.

A further object of the invention is to provide in addition to such a seat or stand convenient supports for a bucket, cloths and other articles necessary to such cleaning, and to enable the seat to be readily adjusted to suit the thickness of the Wall against which it is to be placed, and to be compactly folded when not innse for convenient storing, thereby adapting it particularly for household use.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims heretoappended.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective View of a window seat constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied in operative position. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view. engagement with the sockets or perforations 4.' The lower edges of the extensions 3 are beveled, and the plates 6 are angle ones and extend along the beveled'portions of the ex- .tensions and are secured to the same at that point, and also at the inner ends of the side bars.

The platform is braced by inwardly and. downwardly inclined folding legs 10 having their upper ends hingedly connected with the outer ends of the side bars 2 by leaf plates 11 arranged at opposite sides of the legs 10, and having their upper ends 12 curved and projecting beyond the legs and embracing and pivoted to the side bars 2. The lower ends of the folding legs are connected with each other by a cross-bar 13, and they are connected with the side bars by folding braces 14 composed of two sections 15 and 16 having their adjacent ends pivoted together, and their other ends pivoted respectively to the outer sides of the legs 10, andto the outer faces of the side bars 2. This construction permits the legs to fold compactly against the lower edges of the side bars, and the upper sections 15 of the folding braces are shorter than the lower sections to facilitate compactness in folding, and to en- IOO by screws or other suitable fastening devices to the lower faces of inward extensions 2l of the cleats. The sliding shelf is adjustable, detachable, and reversible, and by turning the pivoted buttons 2O longitudinally of the openings 17, the shelf may be removed to enable it to be arranged at the other side of the platform. This shelf is adapted to hold within convenient reach any of the articles necessary for cleaning windows, or the performance of any analogous operation.

A drop shelf 22 is detachably suspended at one side of the platform opposite to that occupied by the sliding shelf by means of vertical hooks 23 which take over the exposed portions of the side bars 2 at the transverse opening 17. `The drop shelf, which may be readily arranged at either side of the platform, is adapted for holding a bucket or the like.

Vhen it is desired to detach the window seat the legs are folded against the lower edges of the side bars, the sliding shelf is moved inward, and the drop shelf is inverted and placed over the sliding shelf with its hooks depending through the transverse openings, and the Shanks of the hooks are of such a length, that they do not materially extend below the lower edges of the legs when folded, as will be readily seen from Fig. 4L of the accompanying drawings.

It will be readily apparent that the window seat is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction, that it is strong and durable and adapted to afford a secure seat or stand, that it is capable of holding within convenient reach of the operator any article necessary for his use, and that the parts may be compactly folded when desired.

It will also be seen that the window seat may be readily adjusted to suit the varying thicknesses of walls, and that the weight on the shelf assists the clamping action of the means for attaching the seat to a window.

Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

That we claim isl. In a window seat, the combination of a platform provided with inward extensions having perforations at the upper edges, guide eyes arranged at the terminals of the extensions and projecting upward therefrom, and the clamping hooks having rigid Shanks loosely arranged in said guide eyes and located on the upper edges of the extensions and. provided with rigid depending lugs for engaging said perforations, whereby the hooks are adjustable, and are held in engagement with the extensions by the weight of the seat or platform, substantially as described.

2. The combination of a window seat provided with transverse openings, a sliding shelf provided on its lower face with cleats arranged in the transverse openings, and means for securing the cleats in the openings, sub stan tially as described.

3. The combination of a window seat provided with transverse openings, a shelf provided on its lower face with cleats arranged in the transverse openings and pivoted buttons mounted on the lower faces of the cleats anddetachably securing the samein the openings, substantially as described.

4. The combination of a windowseat provided with a transverse opening extending entirely across it, an adjustable, reversible, and sliding shelf provided on its lower face with a cleat located in the said transverse opening, and a pivoted button arranged on the lower face of the cleat, substantially as and for the purpose described.

5. The combination of a window seat provided with openings, and a reversible and fold ing drop shelf arranged at one side of the seat and provided at its inner edge with upward extending rigid suspension hooks detachably engaging the seat at the openings thereof, whereby the drop shelf may be arranged at either side of the seat or be folded on the upper face thereof, substantially as describe In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
