EDWIN PROBST, 0F CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ENGRAVERS TOOL.
assess To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN PRoBsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 311 Northern avenue, Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Engravers Tool, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of engravers tools for cutting or engraving purposes in which the blade and handle are separate pieces.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of the engravers tool entire. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same.
This invention has relation to engravers tools, and it consists of a tool. having a hollow handle in which by means of a sliding steel bar, two set screws, and a knife blade, fitted with a shouldered shaft, the said knife blade may be adjusted and fastened in such a manner that the pointof said knife will at all times be at uniform distance from the handle regardless of decrease in the length of said knife caused by wear, thus affording the operator the greater power that a tool of uniform length affords.
In the annexed drawings A designates the Wooden handle which is hollow.
B designates a brass tube fastened onto the handle.
B is a sliding steel bar which holds the knife.
D is the shank of the blade which fits into Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 30, 1908.

Serial No. 430,121.
the sliding steel bar being held therein by the set screw F. The end of the shank has a shoulder G which abuts againsta pin C passing through the sliding steel bar.
E is a set screw by means of which the sliding steel bar is held rigid in the handle and which allows the point of the knife to be extended or drawn back.
A B D F F. and G. are the handle and its working parts which is sought to be patented. The knife blade being the one now commonly in use except for the shaft with the shouldered end which is simply to allow of its adjustment securely into the sliding steel bar.
I claim:
The combination in an engravers tool of a hollow recessed handle containing a brass tube, a sliding steel bar having a. shouldered end, a blade having a shouldered end, a steel bar pin passing through said sliding steel bar, and two set screws one for the purpose of fastening the blade into the sliding steel bar against the shouldered end of the shaft and another setscrew for the purpose of holding rigid in the handle this comfbination of: the sliding steel bar and kni e.
