PAJAMAS.

UNITED sTATEs encuen a. rom), or CHICAGO, ILLINoIs.v
PATENT OFFICE.
IAJAMAS. g
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
l Be it known that I, GEoRGnfA. Fono, a citizen o 'the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, havefinventedcertain 4new and useful Improvements" in Pajamas, of which the following is a specification.
In lpajamas of the ordinary style it is ,customary to provide a trouser portion with ra' belt string or belt adapted to be tightened around the waist in vorder to support the trouser portion ofthe garment. This arf rangement is objectionable for the reason that it is necessary to tighten the string to an uncomfortable extent in order to properly. hold the garment in place.4
The object of the present invention is to dispense with supportingfmeansof this character and to provide in lieu thereof suspender straps which are sewed to the inner `side Vof the shirt portion of the garment in such manner as to permit the trouser portion tokbe easily and quickly'secured gthereto,
which method of supporting the trouserportion. obviates p any binding or cramping around the Waist, and also relieves the shirt from a direct pull thereon, thereby affording` a more -comfortable garment and one in which the trouser portion will .be more evenly and satisfactorily supported.
The invention consists in thefeatures of construction andcombination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, lligure'llv i a front elevan tionof a pair 'of pajamas, showing the iap of-the shirt turned-back to revealthe ends ofthe suspender strap on one side; and Fig. 2 a"detail,'showing a slight niodicationot the arrangement.4
Fig. l illustrates apair ofpajamas com prising ashirt portion 3, and atrouser portion 4, which latter has secured to the waist band a pair-of front suspender buttons 5, andfa'pair "of rear suspender buttons g G. Each of tliefront suspender buttons is adaptedtoen a e a buttonhole in a tab?,
which is aior e' by the loose or unsecured end ofa'suspender strap 8 which is sewed to the inner Side ot the shirt ortion and vextends up and over the shoul er and terminates on the rear side in a similar loose' l tab39 having one or more buttonholes` adapted "to `engageqthe suspender button- 6. order to permit of adjustment of the trousers, each of the loose tabs is provided with a plurality of buttonholes,v any one of 4which is adapted to enga-ge with the companion button. The suspender strap is firmly sewed to the garment at all portions save only at the tab ends, which arrangement prevents slipping of the suspender 'strap from thev shoulder 'and also obviates the necessity of adjusting suspender straps independently of the shirt portion. The arrangement is such that the free or de tached tabs will be brought into position for `buttoning onto the trousers as soon as the shirt is buttoned up. In Vorder to permit `the waist band of the trousers to be tightened, if-`desired, the band is rovided, on each side, at a point just outside .of the adjacent suspender button, with an adjusting tab 10, having ya buttonhole whichlis adapt ed to engage the adjacent button and thereby drawing together'or pnckering the waist band to -the extent necessary to maire the adjustment. v
Fig. 2 shows a slight modification in the arrangement of the suspender straps in which the detached tabs lare'dispensed with, and the strap is sewed throughout its enin the strapV and the fabric of the garment adjacent thereto, permitting the trouser bnttons to be hut-toned through the shirt. I
.In putting on and taking off the pajamas,
botto'n the trousers from the suspender straps, one-piecey garment by unbottoning the 'coat .in front and slipping them 'on and thereafter thrusting the arms through the sleeves of the shirt. This will be possible by' reason of 4the .tactthat the suspender straps will always be drawn up onto the shoulders by the. act of putting on the shirt, `which is the most', convenient method of adjusting the garment- Furthermore, by securing the straps to the shirt they' will never be mislaid `or misplaced. j
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
shoulder straps, each strap formed of' a continuous strip stitched to the inner Vface of the coat, and being of a uniform wldth tire .length and buttonholes 11 are worked it. will not ordinarily be necessary to un-' In pajamas, acoat, and a pair ot' narrow' and the pajamas can he put onv as a throughout its entire length and having its the trousers and the 'point of attachment of eids tlrnllinatin a fsulhstalitialh distanc the strap. aoveteoWeI-e eo tecoat, tee'nso said straps being p'ovided with button holes GEORGE A' FORD' 5 Whereb the Waist band. of trousers may be Witnesses:
