IMPROVEMENT IN SHOT-CHARGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 9.837, dated July 12, 1353.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHAUNCEY W. CAMP, of the city of Hartford, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Method of Making and Forming GunshotChargers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawing and pattern made and accompanying this specification, and forming part thereof.
Letter A is a sectional view of the interior of the charger, showing the slide and the revolving cut-off as it is when shut; letter B, the same, showing the position of the cut-off when the slide is Withdrawn and the manner in which the opening is closed by the same; letter C, the charger complete, with part of the belt and the spring part open to show the position of the spring and the form thereof.
The utility of this invention consists in the peculiar formation and manner in which the slide operates on the revolving cut-off, and the way it is assisted by the spring to revolve and cut off the shot when the charger-slideisfilled and withdrawn. \Vhen the slide is pushed in,
the point of the bevel strikes the lower part of the revolving cut-off at D, and the bevel part of the slide forces the revolver round till it gets to the position E, which allows the shot in the belt to pass freely into the slide, and when full and withdrawn for use the force of the spring causes the revolver to act upon and out off the shot from the bevel part of the slide and instantly close up the opening, as at D, preventing more shot escaping from the belt, avoiding the risk of waste while the slide is out and in use; also, in case of accident or other cause the slide should come out all waste and loss is prevented.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The manner and method of making and the application of the revolving cut-off and spring to shot-chargers, substantially in the manner and for the purpose as herein set forth and described.
