To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN J. BUSCI-IOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muncie, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Journal-Supports, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to journal-supports.

The objects of my invention are to provide a journal support which will be capable of retaining the journal bearing positively and removably and which will be self adjusting.

Uther and more specific purposes of my invention are to provide a journal support of such new combination, and arrangement of parts and of such improved construction that besides being capable of easy manipulw tion, it will be very economical of manufacture.

My invention is illustrated in the drawings which form a part of this specification and wherein corresponding parts are designated by similar characters of reference throughout the several'views,in which Figure l and Fig. 2 are reverse side views of my improved journal-support. Fig 3 is a top plan view, and Fig. 4L is an end view thereof. Fig. 5 is a view of the roller support showing the position of the journal when the holder member is retract-ed. Fig. 6 is an enlarged longitudinal transverse sectional view of the holder member. Fig. 7 is a view of my invention in a modified form.

In the embodiment of my invention in the lighter form of support herein shown, the body portion of the support is composed of stout wire bent upon itself and curved so as to form the neck A, the end portions of the wire being disposed so as to constitute parallel legs A and A B designates a holder-clip. This holder-clip is made of sheet metal; its portions B and B are bent at right angles to the body portion and through suitable perforations therein the legs A and A may be passed. The portion B of this holder-clip is extended transversely and forms the handle B The portion B is extended forwardly and will be immediately adjacent to the body portion of the support, and its forward end is provided with a half-bore the edges B of which said half-bore are rounded as shown in Fig. 6.

The preferred form of base C is made of sheet metal and at perforations therein the ends of the legs A and A are fit in and riveted. Centrally supported by said base is the stem D the free end of which will be loosely engaged by a suitable perforation 111" the portion B of the holder-clip. A coil spring E having its one end to bear against the base and its other end to bear against the holder-clip will urge the latter to the probearings for clothes-line reels, towel rollers and like rollers of every description. Ad-' vantages afforded by my invention over supports hitherto devised are that the bearingpiece or journal besides being held against escape from its position on the support, will be prevented from rattling or vibrating or being displaced, and will be positively journalcd. There will be a minimum amount of friction; it will be self adjusting, and will be applicable to use in the position as shown, or in inverted position, or as a hanger.

My improved journal-support may be easily secured in place by suitable fastening means applied at the perforations C of the base. To practice my invention the holderclip is held at the retracted position; the journal then placed in position, will rest in the neck A as shown in Fig. 5. When released, the holder-clip will move to the projected position, the beveled lip B will so pilot the holder-clip that the half bore B will readily engage the journal. When thus engaged the journal will be held in the manner as shown in Fig. 1, and will have a suitable bearing besides being held against escapement. The spring E besides forming a yieldable means for retaining the journal against escape, serves to hold all the parts against rattle or vibration. I

The edges of the half-bore B being rounded, as shown in Fig. 6 the efficiency of the device as a support for bearing members or journals which may not be in true alinement, is increased.

By the peculiar combination, construction, and arrangement of parts it will be seen that the coil spring E will be effective in preventing ratt-le or displacement of the parts regardless of the position of the support whether upright or horizontal. It is 0011- templated in the heavier forms of roller support a plurality of springs E, as shown in the modification at Fig. 7 may be used.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. A support including a body member consisting of a rod bent upon itself to form a head portion the ends of said rod forming parallel legs and said head portion being bent to form a transverse mouth, a holder member carried slidingly on said legs and having a half bore to engage the journal, a baseto which the ends of said legs are secured, means between the base and the holder member to hold the latter yieldingly in engagement with the journal.

2. A support including a body member consisting of a rod bent upon itself to form a head portion the ends of said rod forming parallel legs and said head portion being bent to form a transverse mouth, a holder member carried slidingly on said legs and having a half bore to engage the journal, a base to which the ends of said legs are secured, a spring between the base and the holder member substantially as described.

3. A support including a body member consisting of a rod bent upon itself to form a head portion the ends of said rod forming parallel legs and said head portion being bent to form a transverse mouth, a holder clip consisting of a sheet metal body having bent portions provided with perforations through which the said legs are passed, the head portion of which holder clip has a half bore to engage the journal, a base to which the ends of said legs are secured, a spring between the base and the holder clip substantially as described.

4. A support including a body member having a head portion with a transverse mouth to admit a journal, legs formed intogral with the said head portion and dis posed in parallel alinement, a holder member carried slidingly on the said legs and having a half bore to engage the journal, a base on which the ends of said legs are socured, means between the base and the holder member to hold the latter yieldingly in engagement with the journal.
