HAIR-OURLING DEVICE.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVIS MARINSKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Ourling Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to devices for use by ladies in curling their hair, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation, and which may be used with equal. facility at either side of the head, and by means of which the hair may be easily curled without the use of heat; and with this and other objects in view the invention con-- sists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of one side of my improved hair curling device; Fig. 2 a view of the opposite side thereof; Fig. 3 an edge view and showing the method of changing the position of the parts or one of them; Fig. 4 a view similar to Fig. 3 but showing the device in full lines and the method of its use; Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modification; Fig. 6 a view similar to Fig. 2 of the device shown in Fig. 5, and ;-Fig. 7 an edge view of the device shown in Figs. 5 and t3 and showing the method of its use.

In the accompanying drawing all the figures are on an enlarged scale, and in the practice of'my invention I provide a hair curling device comprising two flexible and elastic strips (6 and b, composed of metal, rubber, or any other suitable material.

The strip a is preferably of the same width throughout its length but the strip 7) is preferably tapered as shown. The strip a is also provided with a central longitudinal slot a each end portion of which is preferably slightly enlarged as shown at a, and the end portions a and a of the strip at are preferably olfset in the same direction as shown in Fig. 3.

The strip 6 is provided at one end, the larger end 5 as shown in the drawing, with two holes or apertures 6 through which the side members a of the strip a pass and the opposite end 6* of the strip 6 is tapered as shown in the drawing.

When the parts are in the position shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the position said parts occupy when the device is not in use, both ends of said strips are connected, and

when it is desired to use the device as shown in Fig. 4, the end If of the strip Z) is detached by drawing itout through the opening a in the corresponding end of the strip a, and the hair 0 is wound on the strip a in the usual manner after which the end I) of the strip 5 is again passed through the correspending opening a in the strip a, and this holds the hair 0 tightly wound on the strip a, and the end b of the strip Z) may be detached from the strip a whenever desired so as to loose the hair by simply pulling outwardly on said end of the strip 6.

When the device is not in use as shown in Fig. 3, the end 6 of the strip 7) may be de tached from the strip a and the end b of said strip Zr may be slid along the strip a in the direction indicated by the arrow to until the ends of the strip I) have been reversed, this movement being indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3 and this movement, as will be understood, is made possible by the slot a in the strip a, and the method of connecting said strips and by reason of this construction, the device may, as will be understood, be conveniently used at either side of the head, or may be used either in a right or left position.

In Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive, I have shown a modification in which I employ two flexible and elastic strips (Z and c. In this form of construction the strip (l is of the same width throughout its length, but the strip 6 is preferably slightly tapered. The strip d is also provided with two longitudinal slots (Z forming a central longitudinal part or mem ber (Z and two similar side longitudinal members (1*. In Fig. 7 I have shown the method of using the device constructed as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, this method of use being the same as that involved in the use of the device constructed as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, and as indicated in Fig. 4, and in this operation the end portion 6 of the strip 6 is detached from the corresponding end (Z of the strip (Z, the hair 0 is then wound on the strip (Z, in'the usual manner, and the end 6 of the strip 6 is again connected with the end (Z of the strip (Z.

As hereinbefore described the end of the strip 6 may be disconnected from the end (Z of the strip'd and the end 6 of the strip 6-, may be moved along the strip (Z away from the end (Z of said strip (Z until the end 6 of the strip 6 reaches the opposite end (Z of the strip (Z. The hair 0 may then be wound on the strip (Z and the end a of the strip 6 may be connected with the end I (Z of the Strip (Z, and by means of this construction, as with that shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the use of the device at either side of the head is facilitated as will be readily understood.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A hair curling device, comprising two flexible and elastic strips, one end portion of one of said strips being slidably mounted on the other and adapted to move from one end portion thereof to the end of the strip, L mounted on the other strip, being adapted to be connected with either end of said other strip.

2. A hair curling device, comprising two strips one of which is slotted longitudinally to form parallel members, the other strip being flexible and one end thereof being slidably connected with the slott-ed strip and adapted to move from one end the other, the other end of the flexible strip being free and adapted to be connected with either end of said slotted strip.
