PIN-ATTACHED CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 17, 1911.
Application filed. September 10, 1910. Serial No. 581,457.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANS P. HANSON, of VVinamac, in the county of Pulaski and in the State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pin- Attached Clips, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a clip or holder for letters and other objects adapted more particularly for holding or restraining articles in the pocket of a coat or vest, which will be of inexpensive construction and yet capable of eiiiciently achieving the object stated, and to this end my invention consists in the clip or holding device constructed substantially as herein after specified and claimed.
In the accompanying drawingthe figure is a perspective view of a holding device or clip constructed according to my invention.
Broadly stated my invention comprises a member for attaching the clip adjacent to the pocket and a spring pressed articleholding member which is pivotally connected to the attaching member both of which members are formed of wire and each mem ber with all its parts being of a single piece of wire. The attaching member consists of two safety form spring pins 10 connected together by inwardly or laterally extending portions 11 of the pin guard 12, the wire form-ing said portion 11 being bent into a slender inverted U-f0rm finger 13 situated between the two pins 10 and carried beyond the spring forming eyes 14 of the pins 10. The article-holding member 15 is of wire bent into a U-shape with the legs of the U connected by cross bars which pass through the eyes 14 of the pins 10 and between said eyes is bent to form an off-set or crank 16 against which the end portion of the spring finger 13 yieldingly presses with sufiicient pressure to press the article-holding member 15 against the letters or other articles within the pocket adjacent to which the attaching member of the clip is secured by the pins 10. The article-holding member 15 can be swung on its pivotal connection with the eyes 14 of the pins 10, so as to completely uncover and release articles held thereby,- or be placed in this position for the ready insertion of the articles to be held into the pocket. The device is attached sufliciently above the pocket as not to interfere with the insertion and removal of articles when the member 15 is in its raised position, and so that the free end of said member will project ashort distance below the top of the pocket, when the member 15 is in its holding position.
Having thus described I claim is- A holding device or clip comprising two members formed of wire, one of the members comprising two safety pins and a spring finger situated between the two pins and projecting beyond the spring forming eyes thereof, and the other member having pivoting portions passing through said eyes, and cranked or off-set between the same, and engaged by the end portion of said finger.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
HANS P. HANSON.
