JOHN HERMAN GENUIT, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
NAIL-SET.
Application filed February 28, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. GENUIT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nail-Sets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in carpenters tools and particularly to nail sets the object of the invention being to produce a nail set holder which carries two different sizes of nail sets, the holder acting also as a means for holding the set steady when in operation this being an advantage over the present form of plain set which, when used often flies from the operators fingers unless the hammer hits it exactly true and often the operators fingers get smashed, while with the use of my device the set is held true and steady and the operators fingers are out of range of the hammer. I also aim to have an attachment which will have a hook attachment to engage the edge of the nail pocket of a carpenters apron whereby the same may be always handy and easily found. and within reach of the hand of the operator at any time.
A further object of this invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which is exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure andrelative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a view of a carpenter showing a carpenters apron in position with my improved nail set hung on the nail pocket. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my improved nail set. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a nail set.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 10, 1911.
Serial No. 546,474.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, 1 designates a carpenters apron disposed on a person, 2 being the nail pockets of said aprons.
My improved nail set comprises, first, a fiat body member 3 having a well tempered spring coil 4 at its lower end receiving and gripping a nail set 5 and at its upper end, a spring loop 6 receiving and gripping a nail set 7 there being a downwardly projecting spring member or chip 8 from the loop 6 said member 8 being spaced apart from the member 3 to form a hook or catch to engage and hang the entire device in the pocket 2.
In practice, the members 3 and 8 forming a handle for the nail sets which permits them to be more firmly held and more easily handled while the convenience of hanging them on the pocket 2 is apparent.
The nail sets being removable any size or kind desired can be inserted into the holder according to the class of work to be done, but while any make could be used, those having shoulders a as shown in Fig. 5 would be better since they would stay in the holder much better than the others.
From the foregoing description, it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A nail set comprising a body portion, a spring coil at one end, a loop at the other end, a nail set in said coil and said loop, and a hook on said body portion.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses J OHN HERMAN GENUIT.
