SEWING-THIMBLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 10, 1911.
Application filed November 12, 1909. Serial No. 527,673.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED CONSTANTINE, of 219 Well street, Birmingham, in the county of WVarwick, England, manufacturer, having invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Thimbles, for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 6253, bearing date March 16, 1909, do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention comprises improvements in sewing thimbles, and refers to that class of such articles which are designed to have a curative effect for various ailments such as rheumatism; the object of my said invention being to provide an improved and more efficient means for the specified purpose.
According to my invention I provide a thimble composed of several layers of metals. IVithin the casing, which may be of any ornamental metal desired, I place a magnetic liner in the form of a ring preferably of steel, of a shape corresponding with the thimble casing. This liner has a longitudinal saw cut forming of the liner substan-' tially a horse shoe magnet. WVithin the steel portion and next to the finger, I provide a galvanic lining embodying two metals designed to form a couple and set up galvanic action when the thimble is placed on the hand.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is an outside elevation of a sewing thimble according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a section through same at A-B showing also the interior of the galvanic ring; Fig. 3 illustrates the magnetic lining removed; Fig. 4 illustrates the thimble partly broken away to show the interior of the galvanic lining; and Fig. 5 is a cross section through the galvanic lining.
In manufacturing a thimble according to my invention as shown upon the accompanying drawings at Figs. l5, the casing a may be of any suitable metal or material such as silver and within this I fit a lining b which is of magnetic metal and preferably steel. This lining 5 serves to support and strengthen the silver casing and in addition its upper end has a saw out o forming subv stantially a horse shoe magnet when magnetized. v
Inside the magnetic lining I fit a galvanic ring consisting of any two metals which will set up a galvanic action under moisture from the hand. The ring preferably consists of a circle 0 of zinc and a narrow band or circle 0 of copper, placed on the outside of the zinc, the copper band having studs 0 projecting through the zinc to the interior of.
the thimble thus making contact with the finger.
What I claim is In a sewing thimble for personal wear, an outer casing, a liner of magnetic material fitting within said casing and having a saw cut in its top, and a galvanic device within the liner and comprising an inner ring having openings and an outer ring provided with studs projecting through said open ings, the whole arranged to surround a finger tip and to have the studs in contact with.
said tip.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED CON STANTINE.
Witnesses:
