ALBRO LEE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO EDWARD IE. BIGGINS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
PICTURE-HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ammo LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to picture hangers and has for its object to provide an improved adjustable hanger bv means of which the picture may be set at any angle to the wall and will be so held without special fastening devices.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hook, to which the hanging cords are attached.
In the accompanying drawings of the invent-1on,F1gure 1 1s a front view of the hanger applied to the picture. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof. Fig. 3 is a front view, showing the picture in a reversed position. Fig. .L is a perspective of a modified form of the hook.
The picture molding is indicated at 1, having the usual upper groove 1 to receive the hook 2 of the hanger '2. As shown in Figs. 1 to 3, this hanger consists of a piece of wire bent to form two upwardly projecting branches with hooks at the end, the branches being connected by a cross piece 12 at the lower end.
The picture frame 9 is provided on its back with upper eyes 7 and 7 and lower eyes 6 and 6. The hanging cords 5 and 5' are connected with the lower eyes (i and (3 by means of knots 5, and their ends are passed through the loop of the hanger 2 and are then wound around each other one or more times as indicated at 11 and then extended outwardly as at t and 4 to pass through eyes 7 and T and knotted together as indicated at S.
In adjusting the picture, it can be set at the desired angle and will so remain in consequence of the friction between the cords at the twists 11 and at the loop of the hanger. To adjust the height of the picture, more or less cord can be taken up or let out at the knot 8 by pulling the upper part of the pic- Specification of Letters Patent.

ture frame down, to bring the back of the picture forward and the knot S to the bottom as shown in Fig. 3; and the picture can readily be detached by untying the knot, permitting the ends of the cords to slip through the eyes 7 the hanger. By reversing the picture frame as shown in Fig. 3, convenient means are provided for dusting and cleaning the rear face of the picture. The knot 8 being located at the top of the picture frame also prevents the ends of the cord from hanging below the picture, providing that the cord should be longer than necessary.
The hangers indicated at 2 can be cheaply constructed of wire, and when bent to the shape shown forms a loop which will prevent accidental disengagement of the cords from the hanger.
In Fig. 4 a modified hook is shown, as indicated at 2, and made of sheet metal bent to form the hook 2" at its upper end and a sleeve 2 at its lower end which latter holds the ring 3 through which the cords may be passed the san 1, as with the hook above described.
The picture is supported at all four corners, and the four connections to the hanger permit a comparatively light cord to be used. Angular or other adjustment of the picture may be effected without removing the hook from the molding or disconnecting the cords from the hook.
Vhat I claim as new is A hanger for pictures or the like, comprising a. hook, and a pair of cords each of which is connected at its opposite. ends to the upper and lower parts of the picture respectively, the parts of each cord which ex tend respectively to the upper and lower corners of the picture being twisted around each other adjacent to the hook, to hold them in adjusted position.
In testimony whereof, I do atiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
