Description
BURMAN WISE, OF ORLEANS, NEBRASKA.
'STQCK-VATERER.
o-vaeao.
Spee-fieation of Letters Eatent.
Patented Dec. 6, 1910.
Application filed November 30, 1909. Serial No. 530,640.
T o all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BURMAN lVisn, a Citi- This invention has relation to certain new I and useful improvements in stock waterers.
The aim of my invention is to provide a light, neat, simply constructed and readily operated device by means of which water from a tank can be fed into a trough to maintain the water level at a 1,)redetermined height within the trough.
Tith the above and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangementof parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a watering trough en'ibodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a large detached detail of the valve disclosing the same in section.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 5 designates a suitable tank or reservoir to which the watering trough 6 is connected. This trough is of any suitable length, depth and width.
Held within an opening 7 formed in the front 8 of the reservoir 5 is the threaded tube 10, having an integral stop fiange 11, held to the inner face of the reservoir. At one end this threaded tube has the hollow semispherical valve casing 12, which is exteriorly threaded as shown at 13. The other end of this tube 10 is threaded, as shown at 14. A suitable packing washer 15 is interposed between the stop flange 11 and the reservoir to insure a watertight connection. Held to the valve casing 12 is a second semispherical valve casing 16, which is also exteriorly threaded as shown at 18, and uniting these two valve casings which form a valve Chamber is the threaded collar 18.
The valve casing 16 is provided with the intake opening 20.
Held' within the valve casing 12 is the elastic valve head 21 having a centrally positioned aperture holding a valve stem 22, which is secured by means of the nut 23. This stem 22 passes entirely through and beyond the tube 10, and at its project-ing end carries the nuts 25.
Threading upon the tube 10 is the bracket 2G, having the two apertured ears 28 carrying the pin 29, and pivotally held upon the pin 29, by means of an ear 30, which ear is held between the bracket ears 28. This bar is bent approximately at right angles to provide the lower extension 34 and the upper extension 38 provided respectively with the opening and the bolt opening 36, these openings being held at right angles to one another as shown in Fig. 3. Held within the aperture 35 is the stem 22, the nuts 25 being secured on opposite sides of the bar portion 84, while adjustably held within the threaded aperture 86 is the bolt 40 carrying the fioat 42. This regulator is so arranged that the water level within the trough will be maintained at a short distance above the ears 28 and 30. The fioat 42 determines the water level within the trough. As soon as the water within the trough is consumed the float 42 will descend to displace'the elastic valve head 21 permitting an inrush of water, which as it rises within the trough will again carry the fioat upward to again close the valve.
The device is simple in construction and positive of operation and the working effects are readily accessible and adjustable.
Having thus described my said invention, what is claimed is:
The herein described water trough, comprising a threaded tube having an integral stop flange and hollow. semispherical exteriorly threaded valve casing, a second semispherical valve casing having an intake opening and an exterior screw thread, a threaded collar uniting said valve casing to form a valve Chamber, an elastic valve head within said first mentioned casing, a stem adjustably carried by said head, a threaded bracket on said tube having two apertured ears, a pin within said ears, a bar having an extending ear held upon said pin between the ears of said bracket, said bar being bent In testmony Wlereof I affix my signature, approxmately athrgdlt angles md hafllcgl' n presence of two Wtnesses.
