Description
MARY E. FRENCH, OFCLYDE, OHIO.
PoTATo-MASHER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
' Patented Dec. 24, 1907.
Application filed September 26, 1906- Serial No. 3;"36370.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY E. FRENCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clyde, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Potato Mashers, of which the following is a specification;
My invention relates to potato mashers and has for its object the provision of a device of this character constructed in such manner as to force air through the potatoes that are being mashed to render the potatoes light and fiuffy.
Afurther object of the. invention is the provision of a device of this character constructed in such manner as to receive and retain liquid of any desired temperature, the body portion ofthe masher being constructed o`f a heat conducting material, by virtue of which any desired temperature may be imparted to the potatoes 'being mashed.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a potato masher construct# ed in accordance with the invention, and, Fig. 2 is a vertical section of said potato masher.
Referring to the drawing, A designates al body having an opening 'B formed therein joint.
for the reception of `water. A handle C is threaded into the upper end of this o ening and is adapted to compress a gas etv D against the body A to form a water-tight The lower face of the4 body portion-A is, serrated or fluted, these. serrations serving to effectually mash the potatoes and also confining acertain amount of air in the grooves between them as the masher is forced downwardly', this air being forced through the potatoes, rendering them light and fluffy. I
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that simple and efficient means are herein provided for accom lishing the objects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the, purposes for which the are intended, it is to be understood that t e invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the'scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, is:
In a potato masher", the combination with a bod portion having an internal opening of consi erable size formed therein, said body portion being formed of heat conducting material and being adapted to contain a heating Huid and said body portion having its lower face serrated or fluted, a. handle which forms a closure for .the o ening of the body portion at the upper end t ereof, and a asket adapted to form a fluid tight joint etween said handle and the body portion of the masher, substantially as shown and described.
