Description

' J. M. DEAN Sept. 4, 1934.
REGULATING MEANS FOR THE WATER LEVEL OF FLUSH BOXES Fi led March 2. 1932 Inventor f1 llomey Patented Sept. 4, 1934 UNITED STATES REGULATING MEANS FOR THE WATER LEVEL OF'FLUSH BOXES Joseph Max Dean, Pottersville, Mass.
Application March 2, 1932, Serial No. 596,376
1 Claim.
This invention relates to means for regulating the water level of the flush box of a toilet, so that any desired amount of water can be delivered to the bowl, the general object of the invention being to provide a flush rod which is adjustable as to its length and provide means for adjustably connecting a float to said rod.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. I
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout. the several views, and in which:-
Figure l is a sectional view through a tank provided with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view of the adjustable member on the Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. l.
In this drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the flush tank, provided with the usual discharge means 2 and the water inlet means 3. In carrying out my invention I provide a float rod 4 which has one end bent slightly downward'and pivoted to the support 5 and this end is connected in any desired manner with the valve operated means 6. An elongated block 7 having a bore 8 passing from end to end thereof is adapted to be placed on the free end of the rod 4 with a part of the rod located in the bore, and said block is clamped in adjusted position on the rod by the set screw 9. The outer end of the bar has a transverse opening 10 there in for receiving the upper part of the stem llof the float 12 and said stem is held in adjustment in the hole 10 through means of the set screw 13 passing through a threaded hole in the block 7.
A part of the outer end of the rod 4 is flattened and a part of the stem 11 is also flattened as shown at 14 in Fig. 3, these flattened parts being adapted to be contacted by the set screws, so that the parts will be firmly held in position when the set screws are tightened.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided simple means for adjusting the length of the float rod ,3 and for adjusting the space between the float and the free end of said rod so that the water level in the tank can be controlled or regulated to supply a desired amount of water to the bowl, and keep the float in operation.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be 1 made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim. v r
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
In combination with a valve actuating rod and a float having a stem, an elongated block of noncircular shape in cross section having a centrally arranged'longitudinal bore therein passing from one end of the block through the other end for receiving a part of the valve actuating rod, a part of the block extending beyond'the free end of the rod, said block having a threaded hole therein adjacent one end thereof and passing from the top of the block to the bore, a setscrew in said hole for clamping the valve actuating rod in adjusted position in the bore, the block having a transverse hole therein arranged adjacent the other end thereof and passing from the upper face of the block through the lower face thereof and intersecting the bore for receiving the stem of the float, and said block having a threaded hole therein passing from one side thereof to the transverse hole, and a set screw in the last-mentioned threaded hole for holding the stem in adjusted position in said transverse hole.
JOSEPH MAX DEAN.
