` Application `filed `August 6, 1927. Serial 11o.` 211,144.
Thisinvention relates to water injectors for boilers, and the like, and its general object is to provide an injector that is automatic in its operation to control the flow of water therethrough in accordance with the flow of steam. j
Another object of the invention is to provide an injector for supplying water to boilers, that includes a vacuum control valve operated by the passage of steam through the injector.
A further object of the invention is to provide an injector that is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement olI the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. y
In describingr my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the injector forming the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken therethrough.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3"-8 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure Ll is a sectional View taken on line 4 4 of Figure 2, looking inthe direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings in detail the reference numeral 1 indicates the body of the injector which'as shown is hollow and annular in formation, with an inwardly disposed flange 2 formed at one end as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawmgs. The flange 2 1s arranged in spaced relation with f the free end of a sleeve 3 which extends through the wall 4 of the body and terminates at its outer end in a threaded enlarged portion 5 to receive a steam pipe as will be apparent.
Fixed to the body and to the flanged end thereof through the instrumentality of bolts 6 is a tubular casing 7 within which is disposed. a mixing nozzle 8 formed slightly adjacent the innerend thereof as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
Arranged in the casing for slidable Inovement between the mixing nozzle 8 and the flange of the body 1 is a valve 9 which has its outer end tapered as at 10 in a manner to follow the tapered inner end of the mixing nozzle 8 and said valve controls the passage 11 between the flange 2 and the sleeve 3 as will be apparent, as the inner end of the valve has its opposed edges beveled for engagement with the beveled edges 12 and 13 of the flange 2 and sleeve 3 respectively. Arranged between the sleeve 3 and flange 2 are spacing lugs 14. which adequately brace the sleeve and retains the same in true spaced relation with respect to the ange 2. Detachably mounted through the sleeve and passing through the valve 9 with its small end arranged in the mixing nozzle 8 is a steam nozzle 15 which is flanged as at 16 so that it is secured in operative position when a steam pipe is threadedly secured to the threaded enlarged portion 5.
`Extending at an inclination from the body 1 and arranged in communication therewith is a water nipple 17 to which is adapted to be secured a water conveying pipe for supplying water to the body as will be apparent.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that water is introduced in the water chamber 18 of the body, which is normally closed by the valve 9, but when the steam is passed through the steam nozzle 15, a vacumn will be created in the portion of the casing 7 rearwardly of the mixing nozzle 8 and cause the valve 9 to move forwardly in said casing, which will of course allow the water to flow and be commingled with the steam. B v this construction, the flow of the steam will regulate the flow of the water.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip-y tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.`
What I claim is:
A water injector for boilers, comprising an annular hollow body, a Sleeve arranged therein and extending therefrom, a threaded enlarged portion formed With the outer end of said sleeve, an inwardly extending angu` lar flange formed withl said body and disposed in spaced relation with the inner end of said sleeve, spacing lugs formed with the flange and said inner end respectively, a
tubular casing detachably secured to said body and disposed in advance of said sleeve, a mixing nozzle in said casing and being arranged slightly adjacent the inner end thereof, a flanged steam nozzle having its flange engaging the enlarged threaded portion, said steam nozzle passing through said sleeve and terminatin nozzle, a sliding valve 1n said tubular casing and being adapted to control a passage between the sleeve and flange of the body, said valve having its opposed inner edges beveled for cooperation with beveled edges 20 formed with the sleeve and body flange respeetively, and a water nipple extending at a rearward inclination from said body and being in communication therewith.
In testimonywhereof I aix my si nature.
WILLIAM S. BR WN.
