Specification ot Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 19177.
Application led January 13, 1917. Serial 11o. 142,124.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. LIMBACHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Ma 's in the county of Auglaize and State oliD hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact 4description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to new and' useful improvements in oil burners, and consists more specifically in certain improvements in the oil burner shown .and described in my former Patent No. 1,197,217 of September 5, 1916.
The object of the present improvements, is to provide an oil burner especially for boiler use, and in which steam is directed to the film of oil escaping from the oil discharge pipe to mix therewith in the preparation of the oil for combustion; The steam is directed through the contracted end of a pipe which incloses the oil pipe at the point Where said pipe enters the furnace Wall. From the discharge end of said steam pipe the steam passes tlrough a series of jet openings immediately back of the point of the escaping film of oil, as will be hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1, is a horizontal sectional view of my improved oil burner: Fig. 2, is a vertical sectional View on the line 2-2 of Fig. l: and Fig. 3, is a viewof the discharge end of the burner.
In the' accompanyip drawings, similar reference characters in icate corresponding parts.
A represents the fire-brick wall of a furnace, Within which is mounted a steam inlet pipe B having a contracted end C. This contracted end C is provided with a series of jet openings D which extend around the oil pipe or nozzle E immediately in the rear thereof. The steam pipe B is connected by means of a T-fitting K to the lateral steam feed pipe F, the steam being controlled in its passage from pipe F to pipe B b a suitable valve G. The oil pi e or nozzle Ig is coupled to a continuation t ereof to Wit, pipes H and H by means of a union I and T-ttin I the latter being connected with the o5 inlet pipe J having a controlling valve J. The steam passage through the T-itting K and pipe B is sealed by a packing land L through which the oil pipe section passes, and likewise the pipe section H of the oil feed pipe is sealed by means of a packinA gland L. A feed rod M, extends througi the connected oil pipes E and H and H', the outer end of which is equipped With a hand Wheel N. The outer section H of said pipe has a screw-threaded connection O, With the packing gland L', and by turning the hand Wheel the feed rod M is driven in or out. The portion M of the feed rod that lies within the oil pipe section E, is square in cross section in order that the feed rod may be maintained in a central position Within the oil pipe. The extreme inner end of said oil feed pipe is fitted witha substantially cone-shaped head P which coperates with the end of 'the oil feed pipe section E in spreading the escaping oil inv a film-like sheet y immediately in advance of the ',ets of steam escaping through the openings in the end of the steam pipe C. The two bodies, to Wit, the steam and oil meeting in this manner and at this point results in a very satisfactory mixture of fuel.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A burner of the type specified comprising a sectional oil inlet pipe, a steam inlet pipe inclosing the outlet section or discharge end of said oil inlet pipe, the discharge end of said steam pipe being contracted around the oil pipe adjacent to the discharge end thereof and the said contracted end being provided with a series of jet openings, a steam supply pipe, a coupling member uniting said steam mlet'ppe and said steam supply pi e and forming a passa e to the steam lnfet pipe, a packing glan sealing said passage eyond the couphngmember, and an oil feed rod within the sectional oil inlet pipe, said 100 feed rod havine conical shaped head which In testimony whereof I aix my signature, collgtes wit the dischartgle erlid of said. in presence of two witnesses.
