Description

l M. D. RoB1soN.
KNIFE CLEANER.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 0.
977,680. Patented Dec. 6, 1910.
Nerrii Rob Sala UNITED STAT MERRITT I). ROBISON, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
KNIFE-CLEANER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mnnnrr'r D. RorsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at'San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, Sta-te of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife- Cleaners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in cutlery, accessories and particularly to knife cleaners, the object of the present invention being to produce a semi-automatic combined knife cleaner and polisher which will do the necessary work in a quick and eective manner and without any expenditure of force or energy on the part of the operator, the device itself supplying this.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device as it appears in operation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same partly in sections. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a slip frame joining means.
Referring now to the characters of reference on the drawings I first provide a frame composed of an inverted V-shaped member, such member being formed of two members having side members l and end members 2 each adjacent pair of end inembers forming slip joints by reason of a ring 3 on each end member as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The lower ends 2 of these inverted V-shaped frame members are of course spaced apart and around each of such lower ends is a spring 4 secured to the sides l and Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 17, 1910.
Patented Dec. 6, 1910. Serial No. 538,566.
secured between the upper ends of such sides l 1s a spring 5. The lower ends of the sides l make a loop as at 6 forming feet or pedestals to support the entire device.
Between the sides l and resting on the springs 4 are two cakes of polishing or cleaning stone 7, these being held closely together by means of the springs 4 and 5 and the knife S is inserted between said cakes 7 as shown in Fig. l and moved therebetween the said cakes scouring, cleaning and polishing it thoroughly, the necessary grip or friction being imparted by the action of the springs L and 5, the slip joints 2 and 3 holding the frame member in proper position and still permitting the sides of the same to move apart to permit the operation of the device.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein, viz: I have produced a semi-automatic knife cleaner which will thoroughly clean, scour and polish the knife.
l/Vhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A knife cleaner comprising a frame having side members movable horizontally with respect to each other, and a cleaning means between such side members.
2. A knife cleaner comprising an inverted V-shaped frame having two side members each having two lower end members, rings on each end member movable upon its adjacent end member, resilient means between said side members, and a cleaning means between said side members.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MERRITT D. ROBISON.
