- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I,"HE1:B1-;RT TREVOR SHERWOOD, a subject, of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Corsets, of which the following is a specification. p j T lhis in veution relates" to improvements in corsets of the kind in which laced incisions or slits and belts or straps are provided for adjusting the corset to suit the figure or to reduce the -figure, and hasfor 1ts ob ect to insure that anunruflied surface shall always 'be presented in anypositionof adjustment and to dispense with the'usual rigid web or elastic or cloth belt attachments.

In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a side elevation and Fig. 2 is a half sectional plan showinga corset equipped with the improvements. Fig. 3 is a part side elevation showing more clearly the means of adjustment.

Referring to the drawings, the incisions or slits A, which are preferably arranged one at each side of the busks B, are provided with a set of eyelets C- on one side only of laces D or the like are secured to a piece of elastic webbing K'which in turn is secured to each flap H or the like. A

In order to adjust the corset, the sides of 'each'slit or incision A are drawn together or loosened as required by means of the tapes or laces D and the flaps or the like are adjusted-in buckles L which may be secured,

for example, to straps M extending from the back of the corset, the difl'erence in tension being taken up by the elastic webbing K so that an unrufiled surface shall presented. As shown, formed with extensions suspension devices.

Havin described my invention what I claim and of the United States is:

A corset comprising a body portion formed with an incision and with eyelets adjacent the line of incision on one side thereof, laces passed through said eyelets and sealways be the flaps H may be h for attachment of cured at their ends to the body of the corset on the opposite side of the line of incision, a flap passing from the front to the back of the corset provided with a strip formed with eyelets through which said laces are also .passed and an elastic web secured to the flap and to which the other ends of the laces are secured.
