COMB-CLEANER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Or'ro L. ALBER'rsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Nunda, State of South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Comb-Cleaner; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention pertains to a new and useful comb cleaner, and the principal object of the invention, is to provide a device of this design, comprising two oppositely arranged plates having means for adjustably holding them spaced apart.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel means for stretching a plurality of wires from one plate to the other, in such manner as to allow a comb (not shown) to intermesh therewith, in order to remove foreign substances or refuse from between the teeth of the'comb.

Another object of the invention, is the provision of novel means for connecting a plurality of wires to the plates, said means comprising rods (which penetrate loops at the extremities of the wires) which are fastened to plates by screws or other suitable means. To hold the wires equally spaced apart, they are embedded into recesses of two of the edges of the plates.

In this application a certain form of device is illustrated, but the applicant in no way desires to restrict himself to this special form, the right being reserved to make changes in the details of construction, provided the changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the comb cleaner. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view of a portion of the device, showing the manner of connecting the wires to the plates.

Referring to the accompanying illustrations, 1 and 2 designate plates, which may be of any desired shape, and constructed of any suitable material. These plates are provided with apertures 3 and 4, adjacent to'which the plates are somewhat enlarged, as shown at 5, in order to lend rigidity and strength to the plates, especially at those points of the plates through which the rod 6 penetrates. The port1on of the rod which extends into the aperture 3 of the plate 1 is reduced as shown at 9, in order to provide the shoulder 10, against which the plate 1 abuts. By rotating the rod, the two plates may be brought together, or moved farther apart, as may be desired.

One end of the rod 6 is provided with an eye 11, which is designed for the purpose of connecting with a hook (which may project from a wall or other object not shown), for the purpose of allowing the user of the cleaner to grip the handle 12 by his left hand, in order to hold the cleaner at an angle to the wall, in order that the operator may run the teeth of the comb up and down the wires 13 and 1 1, so as to remove the refuse from between the teeth. The handle 12 consists of an angular piece, the handle portion proper thereof being slightly curved, as shown at 15, in order to allow the user to have a firm grip upon the handle. The angular ends 16 of the handle are provided with flanges 17 (which extend at right angles to the angled ends 16) which are fastened to the plate 1 by means of rivets or other fastening devices 18, as shown.

The plates 1 and 2 on two of their edges are provided with slight recesses or cuts 19,

which receive the strands of wire, in order to hold them equally spaced apart. The wires 13 and 14 are provided with loops or eyes 20. In order to hold the wires connected to the plates, rods or bars 21 are inserted through the various loops or eyes of the wire, and are fastened to the plates 1 and 2 by means of screws or other fastening devices 22.

It will be clearly noted that by rotating the rod 6, in one direction or the other, the plates 1 and 2 may be brought together or moved apart. By moving the plates away from one another, it will be readily observed that the various wires will be tightened, and thereafter held taut, so that the teeth of the comb may readily engage with them.

The wires 13 are designed for the purpose of being engaged by the teeth of fine tooth combs, while the wires 14: are utilized by other combs having larger or coarser teeth.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is In a comb cleaner, two opposing plates spaced apart having their edges provided with cuts, a plurality of wires received by said cuts and having loops at their extime aperture to engage the threads of said rod, and an angular arched shaped handle having flanges secured to one of said plates, and screws penetrating said flanges and the plate.
