Description

A. M. PORTER.
LAMP BURNER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 20, 1905.

ALBERT 1V[. PORTER, OF AMSTERDAM, MISSOURI.
LAMP-BURNER.
To all tol/wm it' may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT M. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amsterdam, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Burner, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in lamp burners and has for its object to provide a burner that s very simple in construction.
Another object of my invention is to provide a lamp burner that will overcome the difficulty that now exists in keeping the wick trimmed evenly in large lamps so that an even blaze can be obtained.
A further object of my invention is to p-rovide a lamp burner with a series of wicks so that one of the wicks can be raised independent of the others.
Vith these various objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction and the combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specication Figure 1 is a side elevation of my burner showing the wick in place. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the burner. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View of the burner.
Referring to the drawings A, indicates the screw threaded bases of the burner which is adapted to be screwed into the lamp and B, the diaphragm forming the upper part of the burner which consists of the chimney rest D, around its edge and provided with the usual chimney holding springs E, and the raised slotted deflector C. y
Mounted in the screw-threaded base A, and extending up through the diaphragm B, into the deflector C, is the wick tube Specification of Letters Patent.

which consists of a flat tube F, having a draft tube G, formed on the outside opposite a central located partition H, forming two wick tubes I. Each of the tubes being provided with a slotted lug J, projecting outwardly from opposite sides and being provided with openings extending transversely across the slots forming journals for the shaft K. Mounted on the shafts K, in the slots of the lugs J, are spur-wheels L, working in slots formed in the wick tubes I. The shafts K, extend outwardly through the diaphragm B, and are provided with buttons M, by which the wicks can be raised or lowered, as may be desired.
It will be seen that by providing a lamp burner with a wick tube formed with a partition forming two separate wick tubes, each tube being provided with independent means for raising and lowering the wick, I provide means for overcoming the difficulties that now exist of being so particular in keeping the wick trimmed in order that an even blaze may be obtained.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A lamp burner comprising a flat tube divided longitudinally into two compartments, each compartment being provided with an opening and having integral lugs formed on the exterior of the same, said lugs carrying spur wheels extending through the opening for operating the wicks and a draft tube formed centrally on the tube opposite the partition.
ALBERT M. PORTER.
