BLAST-FIIRNACE-STOVE GAS-BURNER.
Specication of Letters Patent may concern:
thatl I, ARTHUR G. MGKEE, a
resident of and State of w Ohio,I have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blast-Furnace.- Stove Gas-. Burners, of rwhich the followingis a specificatiom'the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have cont'emplated applying that principle'so` as to` istinguish it from other 1n- Be it known ventions.
in any way This is provided on its upper d" adapted to serve as a: pivotal support for .My invention relates to gas burners for nse in conjunction with blast furnace stoves, and particularly to an improved means for moving burners away -from the doors of stoves of this general character.
The said invention consists of means here? inafter fully described and particularly set forth in the claims.
The annexed drawing and the following descri tion set forth in detail certain means embo ying the invention, the` disclosed means, however, constituting but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be applied. In said annexed drawings; Figure 1-is a top plan of my construction during use, the stove openingbeing shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same. Fig.' 3 is a front end view,
artly in section, and more clearlyshowing the operable parts. .Like letters and numerals of reference refer to similar fparts throughoutl the several. views.
Leading from the-gas main A is a xed outlet tube which after extending a short distance ina substantially horizontal direction, leads into and supports a valve casing C, to which it may be securedY in any approved manner.` This casing comprises the usual cap c provided with' an opening c2 for the admission of the valve stem es. nteriorly the valve pro er c* is 'adapted to restv upon or be ralse from the seat c in the following manner. Secured tothe cap `desired at c is a standard D. end with apin the forked lever E. -Thelatter is connected at one end to the valve' stem by means of the connecting links e', while its forked end .and handle g2,
' nular flanges c" Ato the lower portion L.A Uponr-this shaft,
v.segment j, and in mesh inc loses a nut F, the4 purpose of which will hereinafter more clearlyappear.
A crank shaft) G, having the usual arm g is threaded on its other end, and passes upwardly through a suitable guide bracket H, which is secured by bolh or any other approved means to the an- 08 onthe casing. Continuin in a substantially vertical direction, the shaftG passes through an overhanging bearing .d2 of the standard D, -after which it screws into the nut Fi 4Aswill be readily understood, the stem c3 may by turning this crank be either raised or lowered to respectively open or close the valve.
Patented Nov. 15, 19,10.' Application led December 11, 1909. VSeria). No. 532,515.
The lowerlnost edge of the casing is -provided with an annular flange c. Resting upon thisiiange so as to be freely rotatable,
is a ringJ providedwith a gear segment y.
Suspended from this segment in any desired manner, as by bolts j', so as to .be rotatable with it, I provide a right angled nozzle K' having. an interior diameter corresponding of the valve casing' w'ith which it connects. Suspended upon suitable brackets Z which are secured to the casingC, is a' second vertically extending crank shaft at a point opposite the with it, I provide a inion Z2. This shaft'is likewise provided with an arm Z3 and handle .l The turningn of the crank rotates the pinion, which in turn rotates the Asegment, the latterthen swinging the nozzle K away from the stove door, to describe the arc'indicated in Fig. 1.
The operation of my device is as follows a-Assuming the door of the stove closed'and the `ngzzleff'K-Yof my burner outof position, the door of the stove will rst be opened, after which'thecrankL is turned, until the mouth ,c of the nozzle has swung around to a position directly in frontof the stove opening. The crank G may now be turned to open the valve, and permitthe gas tio flow'l out through the nozzle,\where itis ignited and projected into the stove. After the stove has becomesuiiieiently heated, ya reversal of the cranks G and L respectively closes the valve, and again swings the mouth, of the 'nozzle laround and away from the stove opening, so t at the door thereafter may bemore easily pproached and closed. Having fully described my invention, what I claim therefore and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.' In a device of the character described,
the/combination of a gas main; a valve 'cas- -ing xedly connected with said main; andthe combination -of a gas main; a Valve connected with said main; means for. opening and closing said valve; a nozzle connected with. said valve, and comprising tWo legs having their axes at nieans for causing said nozzle to sWin about one of said axes.-
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a gas nected with said main;
means for opening and closing said valve; a nozzle connected Withgsaid valve, and comprising two legs having thelr axes atan angle; and means comprising-a .gear segmentand pinion,
right angles; andl segment; and means" adap'tedto swing said nozzle abouj; one of said axes. g v
4, in a device .of the character described,
Y 'the 'combination of'a gas main; a valve con- 'ncted with said main; 'means for opening and .closing said valve; a gear segment rotat-ably mounted upon said valve; a right anone end connected with and fixedly suspended from said for rot-ating said seggled nozzle having said valve,
ment.
Signed by me, this, 3d day of'Deceniber, 1909. l
