Description

J.. G. HOMET. GRAVAT HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED JULY 2, 190a.
Patented Nov.1,1910.
[ii/enter,
UNITED STATES OFFICE.
JEWET GILBERT HOMitT, or SCRAIN'ION, PENNSYLVANIA.
CRAVAT-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnwn'r Gr. HOMET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cravat-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cravat holders.
One object of the invention is to provide a cravat or other holder embodying such characteristics that it may be readily formed by hand from a single piece of material. Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a cravat or other holder embodying sim alicity, inexpensiveness, durability and efhciency in the performance of the various functions to which it may be assigned,
lVith the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion, size and minor details without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a rear view of a cravat illustrating my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional View through the neck-band of a shirt; a collar; a collar button; a cravat; and my improved holder. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the holder. Fig. 4C is an end view of the holder itself looking toward the pin receiving jaws. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line aa of Fig. 4.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that my improved device is composed of a single piece of any suitable material, whose body 1 is coiled intermediate its ends to form an eye 2 adapted to fit over the collar button At another point in its length, the ma terial is bent, twisted or otherwise formed into a coil f and then continued, and terminating at One end in the pin 5. The opposite end of the body 1 is directed at an angle to the body 1, as indicated at 6, and

is then directed upwardly at 7 in spaced relation to the part 6, being then directed over at 8 and downwardly to form the pinreceiving jaw 9. The material is then bent parallel with and spaced slightly from the jaw 9 to form the cooperating pin-receiving jaw 10, being then bent over at 11 and again at 12 to form a part parallel with the part 7, the parts 7 and 12 being spaced from the jaws 9 and 10, as stated, and form ing a guard for the pointed or free end of the pin 5.
It will be noted that the bent portions 8 and 11 diverge slightly from each other to permit of the ready reception of the pin, and that the pin does not extend to the lower end of the jaws, but lies normally intermediate the ends of the latter. It will also be noted that the pin bears against the part 6 of the body of the device as it is being forced between the jaws and as the part 6 of the body lies between the jaws at the upper ends only of the jaws, this said part 6 serves to prevent accidental disengagement of the pin from the jaws.
My improved holder may be formed of ordinary wire suitably enameled, if desired, and if preferred it may be composed of gold, silver, aluminum, or the like. I11 any event, its construction is such that it may be readily formed by hand, if desired, instead of by machine.
Instead of being sold solely as a cravat holder, the device is equally capable of performing various other functions, such, for instance, as in connection with horse blankets, robes, stable blankets, flags, banners and analogous goods. Hence, I do not limit myself to the field of use.
lVhat is claimed is A device of the character described comprising a body having one end terminating in a pin and having its opposite end bent at substantially a right angle to the pin and again bent outwardly to form a guard member substantially parallel with the aforesaid bent portion and continued backwardly and directed downwardly over and crossing the first mentioned bent portion to form a jaw, then bent to form another jaw for co6pera tion with the aforesaid jaw to receive the free end of said pin, one of said jaws being inclined, said body being finally bent to of said inclined jaw and partly closing said form a second guard member for coiiperathroat. 10 tion with the aforesaid guard member said In testimony whereof I afiix my signabody portion having a coil intermediate its ture, in presence of two witnesses.
ends, said inclined jaw coiiperating with JEWET GILBERT HOMET. the companion ja-W to provide an open WVitnesses: throat to receive the pin, the first mentioned E. C. SCHULTZ,
bent portion lying adjacent the upper part HARRY HOUCK.
