Be it known that I, HENRY B. PrrNEn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olean, Cattaraugus county, New York,have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fasteners and the Like, of which. the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

One object of this invention is to provide a simple and practical device for holding two or more curtains together when desired and to easily and quickly unfasten them when necessary.

Another object of this invention is to provide an inexpensive device for fastening curtains by a cap which will not get lost and which will not come unfastened when used.

Another' object of this invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive device aiiXed to curtains for holding them together when desired, for quickly and easily unfastening them when necessary and for so holding any number of curtains.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed and illus trated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

In the drawings forming part of this specification, the separate parts are designated by the same letters of reference in each of the views; and these drawings, with the following detailed description, form a full and complete specification such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make, use and manufacture the same.

In the drawings, A denotes a flap of the curtain to which is aiiixed a button G with or without a metal face by any suitable means as F, having a hole in its center for the post B to pass through, and having a strap or tongue I connecting it with a similar button F, fastened by any suitable means as F. The strap connecting the two buttons acts as a spring, in face a light coiled spring could be used for the same purpose. It works the same as a torsion spring which is the purpose for which it is used. The buttons F and Gr have a face of metal with a backing of leather, the metal keeping the leather in place, preventing it from wearing and so that it cannot slip off. The said button can be made any desired size or shape but the hole H must be elliptical, the sides of which will engage the notches C in the elliptical post B and hold the other flap or flaps of a curtain. The post B must be elliptical and can be fastened to the frame work of the vehicle or to another curtain in any suitable manner as D in Fig. 4:, when fastened to the frame work. Said post B has any desired number of notches C so that the lower button F, when engaged therein;

will securely fasten any desired number of flaps (as A) together and securely hold them by reason of the said post being elliptical and the hole I-I in the button F being also elliptical but oppositely disposed, as clearly shown in Fig. l. It is imperative that the post and hole be elliptical and oppositely disposed-that is they must not be correspondingly arranged but oppositely placed so that the torsion strap will prevent the button from coming out by reason of the notches in the post holding it. This strap or tongue I can be made of any suitable substance but-preferably of leather so that it can be easily turned to allow the elliptical hole H to pass over the elliptical post B and also to keep the same oppositely disposed after it is placed in the desired notch, as C. These notches can be one or more but preferably two as there are generally just two flaps to be fastened but it is readily understood that there might be three or more and so can have a corresponding number of notches.

l/Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise showing herein setforth, since various changes in the form, proportion and minor details may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrii'cing any of the advantages of the inven-I tion.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. In a device of the character described, the combination of an elliptical post having a notch cut therein, a socket member adapted to be passed over said post, a cap provided with an elliptical opening for engagement over the post, the major axis of the soV opening in said cap being disposed at right angles to the major axis oi the post, the edge portions of said opening being seated in the notch of said post and a exible connection between said vcap and the socket member.

2. A post having an oval head with a notch below said head forming a shoulder, said post adapted to be attached to one of two parts to be connected together, a socket member attached to the other of said parts to be connected and adapted to be passed over said post head, and a lockingdevice eXibly connected to said second part and
