FIG. 1

LAP-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 12, 1908.
Patented Dec. 1.4:, 1.90.).
Serial No. 457,308.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. BOYER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lap-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lap-fasteners, and consists of the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts as will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to construct a fastener from a single sheet of material adapted to securely fasten together several strands of material and dispense with the use of stitching.
A further object is to construct a fastener to be used for securing together any number of strands of harness leather and take the place of stitching.
In the drawings-Figure l is a plan view of the blank as stamped before forming in shape. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my complete invention. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same in an inverted position. Fig. at is a cross-sectional view of my invention in its operative position on the material. Fig. is a perspective view showing my invention in its relative operative position.
In the construction of my invention, I provide a sheet of material (3, two of its edges provided with teeth 7, and in the sheet is an elongated opening 8. This sheet is stamped out of a blank and bent on the lines 5) and to form the top member 11, side members 12, and bottom section 13 which has its teeth 7 bent inwardly so as to contact with the material to which the fastener is to be applied.
The purpose of the elongated opening is to permit the application of the loop 14., its ends held firmly between the strands or straps 15, and through said loop is passed the usual overlapping end of one of the straps. At the projecting end of the strands 15 is located a buckle 16.
This fastener is especially designed to dispense with the use of sewing as is the connnon practice.
The fastener when used is placed around the several strands and when in its adjusted position pressure is applied thereon and the teeth embedded in the lower strand and as shown, the remaining portion or body of the fastener acting as a clamp securely retain ing the several strands together.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to have sesecured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is:
A lap fastener comprising an elongated body having a top; two parallel side members; a bottom section; a strap mounted in said body, and overlapped upon itself; a series of teeth extending throughout the length of the body and formed on the inner edges of the bottom section, all bent inwardly and arranged at right angles to the bottom section, the top being provided with an elongated slot, the ends thereof extending into the side members; a loop so inserted in said slot that the ends thereof are securely fastened between the laps of said strap, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK A. BOYER.
