Description

E. S. CHASE.
Lamp Chimney.
Patented Nov. 30, 1869.
n0 T/VESSELSE' tuna tstre peat can,
Letters Patent No. 97.358, dated November 30, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT m LAMP-GHIMNEYS.
, The Schedule referred.v to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EBnN SIMPSON CHASE, of Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire, and in the State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimneys; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, "and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of this invention consists of asectional lamp-chimney, having a circumferential shonlderat the top and bottom, upon which are placed flexible bands, and in providing the upper and lower sections with alternate?projections and recesses, so as to more efficiently secure the parts in position.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to makeand use the same,
i I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reierring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1. is a side view of a chimney out longitudinally, with the'top band removed;
Figure 2 is a view of the lower end; and Figure 3, a viewof the upper band. 7 A represents a lamp-chimney made in any of the known and usual ways, of glass or other suitable material, and of any size desired. This chimney is split or cut longitudinally in one or. more places, said splits or cuts extending the whole length of the chimney.
The ends of thechimney are surrounded by flexible bands, B B, which hold the chimney together.
The sections A are cut out on the exterior oftheir tops and bottom, thus forming a circumferential shoulder wh-ere the bands are put on, so as to cause the outer surface of the bands to be-fiush with the outer- 7 surface of the chimney.
1 The sections at the top and bottom are formed with semicircular mother-shaped projections (as seen at a: in fig. 1) on one side, and with corresponding recesses, a, on the other, so that when the parts are put together, the projections fit into the recesses, andpreventthe parts from being-moved upward or downward i from each other.
I am aware that a sectional chimney is not new, hence I do not broadly claim such to be my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I The herein-described sectional chimney, composed of two or more sections A A, formed with circumferential shoulders. at the top and bottom, and with projections and recesses, and held together by the flexible bands B B, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 1st day of January, 1869.
\Vitnesses: EBEN SIMPSON CHASE.
E.,J. FARR, E. M. BARTLETT.
