METAL-MOLDING CRIMPER.

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. VILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Molding Crimpers, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to crimping tools of the plier type especially adapted for but not limited to, use for crimping together the sections of hollow moldings which inclose circuit wires.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a tool of the character stated with novel gripping jaws which will hold one section of a molding in embracing relation with another section and by closing said jaws cause the side flanges of the embracing section to crimp over the base of the embraced sections, thereby rigidly interlocking said sections.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a detail perspective view showing the practical operation of the improved crimping tool. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the tool. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in side elevation showing the tool in practical operation. Fig. A is a fragmentary view showing by full lines the beginning and by dotted lines the ending of the crimping operation.
Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved tool comprises the handles 1 which are provided with the oppositely curved jaws 2. Said handles are held in crossed pivotal relation by the bolt 3. The free ends A of the aws 2 are each provided with a flat beveled gripping surface 5 from the inner end of which the flat rest flange 6 projects. The gripping surfaces 5 of the jaws are beveled in opposite directions and the rest flanges 6 project toward each other.
The improved tool is of especial value for crimping together sectional hollow moldings of the type shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, said sections being designated by the letters A and B. Section A being the portion that is fastened in any suitable manner to a ceiling or wall, and section B being the portion that is fitted over the outstanding side flange of section A.
In using the tool, the sections are placed in the described interlocking relation and section B is grasped by the jaws 2, the base of said section resting on flanges 6 and the side flanges of section B being in contact with gripping surfaces 5. it-h the parts in such position it will be seen that by bringing the aws toward each other the free edge of the side flanges of section B will be crimped over the base of section A. The crimping operation is illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 4, B designating the portions of the side flanges of section B which are crimped to the overlapped position relative to the bottom of section B when the gripping sur faces 5 are in the dotted line position designated by 5 What I claim as my invention is A tool of the plicr type having at the free ends of its jaws supporting-flanges substantially in the plane of movement thereof and being adapted to support the adjacent sides of a hollow molding-section, and beveled ends arranged at an oblique angle to the flanges whereby the free edges of the section are crimped.
