Nu. 704,217. Patented July 8, 1902. I

JAB COVER REPAIRING TOOL.
(Application filed Mar. 12, 1902.)
(No Model.)
XW b2 ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEON SARR, OF OEYLON, OHIO.
JAR-COVER-REPAIRING TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704.,217', dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed March 12, 1902. Serial No. 97,846. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEON SARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ceylon, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Tool for Repairing Jar- Covers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to tools for straightening and re-forming metal tops for fruitjars and similar receptacles that have been bent or otherwise made unfit for use. I attain these objects with the tool illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the tool, showing certain parts in full. Fig. 2 is a top view of the tool.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
The tool is provided with two handles A and O. The lower handle 0 is provided at one end with a convenient place to hold the tool in hand, and at the other end it is curved to suit the lower side of a standard fruit-jar cover. As shown in Fig. 2 the upper side of this curved portion is beveled to suit the standard fruit-jar cover. The lever B is interposed between the two handles A and O and is pivotally fastened at one end to the upper side of handle O by pin E, and the other end of the lever B is provided with a curved shaped part which is curved to suit the upper side of a standard fruit-jar cover. The under or lower edge of this curved portion is beveled to suit the standard fruit-jar cover, and when the curved portion of lever B is forced down on the curved portion of the handle C it forms a clamp or press for pressing the bends and kinks out of fruit-jar covers, and thus repairing old and useless covers and making them fit for use again. The
fastened inthe lower handle by pin F, so that when the two levers are pushed together the cam' forces the lever B, with its beveled curved edge, down on the beveled curved edge of the lower handle 0, and thus forming a great pressure between the beveled curved jaws of the tool for re-forming the bent or crooked edges of fruit-jar covers. The spring D raises the lever B when the handle is released, thus opening the beveled curved jaws to release the jar-cover.
I do not wish to confine my invention to the repairing of fruit-jar covers, as it is plainly evident that it maybe used for various other things, such as forming thin metal designs by slightly changing the shape of the jaws.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a jar-cover-repairing tool having a lower handle with a beveled curved jaw at one end and handholding place at the other, an intermediate lever pivoted in the lower lever at one end, and having beveled curved jaws at the other, fitting jaws on the lower lever, a spring for raising the said intermediate lever, and an upper lever pivoted in the lower lever and having a cam on the under side which engages the intermediate lever to force it down on the lower bevel-curved jaw of the lower handle, thus forming a means of pressing the edges of a jar-cover substantially as shown and described.
LEON SARR.
