Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN NORMAN YOUNG, of Brockville, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop- Heads, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in mop heads, and the objects of my invention are to provide a simple and effective form of mop head which may be cheaply manufact-ured and which will firmly and efiectively hold the mop cloth in position, but which will nevertheless be readily removable when desired.

It consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specifications and drawings In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the mop head with the cloth thereon. Fig. 2 is a side view of the mop head.

In the drawings, like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a mop handle of usual construction and B the supporting member for the mop cloth which is in the form of a substantially rectangular frame having means for attaching it to the mop handle. This frame member is formed of wire and the means for attaching it to the handle comprise a plurality of spiral turns 10 formed in the supporting member and adapted to encircle the mop handle, a loop 11 being also formed on the uppermost of said turns and through this loop a fastening screw 12 may be inserted.

The front side 13 of the supporting member extends substantially at right angles to the mop handle and is adapted to support the mop cloth in operative position. To hold the mop cloth against the side 13, a retaining member C is provided, preferably of. resilient material having one free end 14:- This member is adapted to extend substantially parallel with the side 13. I11 accordance with the present invention, this member is formed integral with the supporting member, the whole being thus formed of a at the extremity as by turning a portion of the wire back on itself.

It will thus be seen that the present invention provides an exceedingly simple and of fective form of mop head, the material and construction of which is very cheap, and owing to the absence of machine work, the labor costs are very small. There are no corners or other projections likely to engage or scrape the floor, and the mop head possesses many advantages in practical use over those previously constructed.

As many changes could bemade in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claims could be made without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specifications and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

That- I claim as my invention is:

1. A mop head. comprising a supporting member in the form of an oblong wire frame having a plurality of spiral turns adapted to encircle the mop handle, one end of the wire extending to form a retaining member adapted to hold the mop cloth against the front side of the supporting member, and means for holding the retaining member in closed position.

2.
