'Be it. known that l, Rionann von Hony'rH7 a subject of the Emperorof Austriaf Hungary, residino at No. l? llandstrasser giiertel, in Vienna, in the Empire of Austrial-lungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Light-Strikers, oli which the following is a specification.
Notwithstanding the development oi? the match industry there is still a demand for li leht-strikers which will not fail in the open air, in a storm for example, and able to compote successfully with matches as regards cost`v which is oli' great importance from an industrial point of view. Light strikers in which powder caps `are caused to explode by means of a percussion hammer so as to cause a slow match or tinder arranged in prox? imity to the place ot' explosion to glow, present the defect that the explosion is frequently not produced7 especially in damp weather, while even when the explosion does occur it. does not always result in the kindling of the tinder. This renders theselightstrikers uncertain in operation and thus prevents their commercial success. The iiints which are still sometimes used for striking' a light demand special skill in using them :for this purpose so that they do not come 'up to present day requirements.
Now for some time substances or'bodies have been known which emit sparks copiously and with a very slight amount of triction. These bodies, such for example as pyrophorie metals or alloys, altord means tor obtaining a convenient industrial light striker which is always certain in its open' lation, and such a device forms the object of the present invention. As these bodies loecome operative when but slightly heated1 a sharp knife-like instrumentJ is sufficient for producingthesparks for igniting a slow match. lt is therefore only necessary to provide such 'a sharp piece of iron or steel with a sleeve serving for the reception of the slow match-the end of which is situated. in close proximity to the edge of' the piece ot iron/or steel. lf therefore, with the end or the slow match piotrudinf-, this edge is drawn quickly over the rictional surface of the sparkemittinit!T body, the slow will invariably be kindled.
