- Application filed ii'ovember 28, 1910. Serial 1T0. 594,287.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM R. MANN,
Jr., a citizen of the United States, and residing at Weisel, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar- Lighters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cigar-lighters, more particularly that type wherein the saine, in the'form of what may be termed a cartridge or torch, is fixed to the cigar.
The invention has for its object to provide a device of the character indicated which will insure the lighting of the cigar,-also to effect such lighting the instant the lighted match or rather its flame, is presented to the cigar; also whereby the possibility of the transmission of any fumes to the mouth from the lighting of the cigar by a match is prevented or obviated.
The invention consists of the instrumentalities .or features substantially as hereinalfter fully disclosed and defined by the 0 am.
In the accompanying drawin illustrating the preferred embodiment o my invention wherein, it will be understood that changes or modifications pertaining to the details thereof may be madewithout departing from the spirit of the invention,- F1gure 1, 1s a perspective view of a cigar with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2, is an enlarged detailed longitudinal section of the same, the cigar being fragmentary. Fig. .3, is a transverse section of the invention.
In practising my invention, I take an ordinary cigar, designated by the reference character 1-, and a' ply to the relatively outer end thereof, a tu ular paper or other like fibrous member 2', the major portion of said Patented Apr. 30,1912.
paper or fibrous member or sleeve being suitably fixed, as by paste, to the cigar. The
remaining portion of said member extends beyond the end of the cigar,'forming a hollow cylindricalj shell-like extension to the cigar, which extension has suitably applied to and around its free edge. or end, in outstanding ring or annular outline, an explo sive fuse orreadily' ignitible composition 3,
such, for instance, as. usually, employed. in
forming match-heads, and which; as will be readily appreciated, is readily fixed by the presentatlon thereto of the flame ofa'lighted match, as usually practised-in lighting acigar. vThe paper shell thus formed is also suitably saturated with-'an inflammable oil for aiding its action in efiiecting the lighting of the cigar, also for the ready and com- .plete destruction of said paper-shell. A cigar thus ,equi'fp'ed may be readily lighted, WlthOllt any [0 "the usual inconveniences or annoyances of repeated striking and lighting of matches before effecting thelighting of the cigar, thus initially insuring the lighting o eration, as doubtless will be appreciated om the foregoing.
what I claimas new and desire to. secure by United States Letters Patent, is:-
A lightingsattachment' for cigarscons'isting of an inflammable tube one end of whlch -is adapted to receive and be fitted to the lighting end of. abigar, and the other end of which is provided with a readily i itible fuse in the form of a bead encirclmg the tube.
