Description

Sept. 29, 1953 v. v. DUSSICH CIGARETTE IGNITING DEVI CE Filed Jan. 4, 1949 IN VEN T 0R. M0 225?) K a 551M B Y A TTORNE Y Patented Sept. 29, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,653,613 CIGARETTE IGNITING DEVICE Manlio Victor V. Dussich, Verona, N. J Application January 4, 1949, Serial No. 69,220 2 Claims. (Cl. 131-170) This invention relates to novel articles of manufacture and is directed to novel devices which may be demountably coupled with a cigarette, cigar, pipe or the like and employed in the lighting thereof, and is especially useful for that purpose in a strong wind. The novel devices of this invention may be produced at a very low cost, have a long life and are simple to use.
Fig. l is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the embodiment shown in Fig. l coupled with a conventional type cigarette and having a match of any of the conventional types coupled therewith and in operative position.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention and being a modification of that shown in Fig. 1
As shown in Fig. 1, one embodiment of the invention comprises a short cylinder, band or tube The normally lower end of the tube It, which is preferably composed of metal or other non-combustible material which may be nonthermoset non-combustible resin, may be flared outwardly at H to provide entry or mouth for the tube 1 0. Integral with, or in any other manner secured to the tube ID at or near the normally upper periphery thereof is a match holder or channel I 2 which consists of a short narrow base plate or support I3 having upwardly extending sides i4 and top inwardly extending narrow lips l5 whose longitudinal edges may either be contiguous or preferably as shown spaced from each other. The end of channel I2 close to tube it may be flared outwardly to provide a mouth for ready insertion of a match. The distance of the lips [5 from the base I3 may be equal to or slightly less than the thickness of ie stem of the conventional book-type match. However, it is to be understood that said distance may also be equal or slightly less than twice the thickness of said stem so that two matches may be used in place of the single one as shown in the illustration. Thus, said distance is equal to slightly less than an integral multiple of the thickness of said stem. The channel [2 is disposed at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the tubeit, said angle being no greater than 90 and no less than 60. For most purposes the channel i2 extends outwardly and downwardly at a slight angle from the upper edge of tube I0. It is to be understood that the shape and size of the opening through the match holder I2 may metallic, such as a Also as shown in Fig. 3, another type of match holder may be employed and shown, said holder may comprise a channel with The novel devices of this invention may be used in the following manner: a match 20 is torn from its stem 2| is end-inserted I2 of Fig. 1, or side-edgeinserted in match holder of Fig. 3 and adjusted in either case so that its head 22 tube it. Then one end of a cigarette 23 is in-'- the device together with moved from the lighted cigarette and the used match is removed from the device. If desired While this invention has been described in dechanges and modifications.
I claim: 1. A device of the class described comprising a tube for receiving an end to to the longitudinal axis of said tube.
2. A device of the class described comprising a. tube for receiving an end of a cigarette or the is located just. above the center of the normal upper end of the? like to be lighted and a match stem receiving and holding channel secured to said tube at one end thereof, said channel extending substantially entirely outwardly from said tube in a direction away from the longitudinal axis of said tube, said channel being disposed at an angle of about 60 to 90 to the longitudinal axis of said tube, the end of said tube remote from said channel being flared outwardly, said tube being split along the entire length thereof.
