Abstract

23,834. Smith, J. Bramwell-. Oct. 29. Blasting and mining fuses.-A rocket fuse consists of a "straw" or small tube of paper or other combustible material B provided with a holder A and charged with explosive D adapted to be fired by electrical means G or by a common fuse or by touch paper. The holder A may be held in the bore hole in various ways, for example it may be large enough to fit the sides of the hole or it may have a flange to rest against the edge of the hole. The "straw" B is secured to the holder A by means of cement E and binding wires a or otherwise. When the holder A is long enough, a plug C may be used to protect the fuse when not in use. When the fuse is fired, the "straw" B is burnt through at its root and is then propelled in the manner of a rocket towards the shot to be exploded.
