SUSPENDER ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. KRAMER, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county I of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Suspender Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

As is well known, the elastic webbing employed in connection with suspenders of mens over-alls soon becomes worthless, and after two or three washings, the rubber is either destroyed or rendered so rotten as to be useless.
It is the object of the present invention to combine the elastic webbing with the suspenders in such manner as to permit of its ready detachment therefrom when the garment is to be washed, thereby to prolong the life of the webbing to its utmost limit, and eliminate a source of trouble and expense to users of such articles.
With the above and other objects in view,
as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a suspender cast-off, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts,Figure 1 is a view in perspective, exhibiting a portion of a pair of suspenders, and of a length of .webbing, connected by the cast-off of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of the cast-off.
The article comprises two triangular shaped members 1 and 2, constructed from sheet metal, each having at its wider end a transverse slot 3 and 4, respectively, the
former of which is engaged by the Suspender strap S and the latter by the elastic webbing W. The member 1 is provided with a key-hole shaped opening 5 that is engaged by a headed stud 6 carried by the member 2, a spring tongue 7 secured to the member 1, being disposed over the slot and serving to hold the stud against accidental disconnec tion from the member 1 when the east-off is in use.
As will be noted by reference to Fig. 2, the lower terminal of the tongue is provided with "an out-standing portion 8 constituting a resilient abutment against which the stud bears, and by which it is prevented from accidentally working from the slot, at the same time permitting pivotal movement of the members being free to turn in the slot, and thus relieving the shoulders of the wearer from strains which would otherwise result.
111 assembling either the webbing or the suspenders with one of the cast-off members, one end of the flexible portion is threaded through the slot 3, and then folded around the inclined sides of the member, and then brought out again through the slot, thereby firmly securing the parts together. By this arrangement, the frictional contact between the walls of the slot and the edges of the member with the fabric or webbing will be sufficient to prevent any slipping motion, so that when the suspenders are properly adjusted, they will remain in proper co-active relation.
By referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the spring tongue 7, in its intermediate portion, is arched away from the plate 1 with which it is assembled, in the vicinity of the enlarged portion of the key-hole slot 5. By this construction, the head of the stud 6 may be made to enter the enlarged portion of the key-hole slot without pushing the spring tongue 7 outwardly. Moreover, this arched portion of the device serves to space the spring tongue 7 away from the plate 1, so that the said spring tongue is better adapted to be engaged by the suspenders S, the suspenders thus constituting a .means for holding the spring tongue against the periphery of the head of the stud 6.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a pair of triangular plates having their apexes overlapped, each plate having a transverse slot located adjacent the edge of the plate remote from the overlapped apexes, one of said plates having a key hole slot, the narrow portion of which extends into the overlapped apex of said plate, there being in the overlapped apex of the other plate, a headed stud arranged to be received in the key-hole slot; a resilient tongue assembled at one end with the first named plate and alined with the key-hole slot therein, the tongue having its free extremity outwardly bent to extend across and to bear against the periphery of the head of the 10 the head of the stud through the enlarged portion of the key-hole slot, and to space the tongue from said plate for engagement by the fabric.
