Be it known that I, GEORGE B. PETERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bellingham, in the county of Vhatcom and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Article-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to that class of article holders adapted for insertion within, and attachment' to, a pocket to prevent the loss of articles, such as rules, pencils and the like, therefrom, my object being to provide a neat appearing and inexpensive device embodying, in its make-up, a minimum number of parts, and certain novel ones to be hereinafter pointed out.

In the accompanying drawings, which show my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view thereof. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 showing the holder closed. Fig. 4 is a similar View showing the holder open. Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a front view with the clamping plate removed.

Referring to these figures, 5 represents the body plate which has a forwardly extending flange 6 at its upper longitudinal edge, terminating in a downturned edge 7 upon both sides of its central tongue 8 which extends downwardly and is spaced away from body plate 5. As shown, the lower edge 9 of body plate 5 is curved slightly in the direction of the tongue S. Arranged against the outer surface of the tongue 8 is the clamping plate 10 which is adapted for pivotal swinging movement at its lower portion upon the lower port-ion of said tongue, the said lower portion of said clamping plate having an inturned and upturned flange 11 provided with reduced end portions l2. The clamping plate 10 has an upper edge 13 bent to partially extend over the upper flange 6 of the body plate 5, when closed, and is also provided with a central opening 14 and side ears 15 between which are inturned lips 16 adapted to engage and hold a photograph or identification card to show through said opening 14. This formation of the clamping plate provides a pocket upon its inner surface whereby to hold stamps and the like.

The clasping wire is intermediately bent to form a series of vertical loops 17, as

shown in Figs. 1 and 2, which are arranged upon, and at an angle to, the rear surface of body plate 5, the lower ends of said loops pressing against the lower curved edge 9 of said body plate. The portions 18 of this clasping w'ire at the ends of the series of loops 17, are extended through openings in the body plate adjacent the ends thereof, and are bent inwardly adjacent its upper flange 6, to points adjacent the center of said plate and then bent back upon themselves to points beyond the sides of the tongue 8 from where they are bent angularly and downwardly adjacent the inner surface of clamping plate 10, as shown at 19, and have angular extremities 20 bent inwardly toward body plate 5 below the reduced ends 12 of the low'er flange 11 of said clamping plate, said extremities 20 having sharpened ends. These bent extremities 20 thus form a pivot or hinge for the clamping plate, and, when the latter is moved outwardly as shown in Fig. 4, the extremities 2O are drawn away from the body plate 5, and permitted to spring toward said plate 5 when the clamping plate is closed as shown in Fig. 3, whereby their sharpened ends may project through and be withdrawn from the material A at the front of a garment pocket after the body plate 5 has been placed in the pocket to receive the material A between the same and its tongue 8. The extremities 20 pass through openings 8a in the lower side portions of said tongue 8, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, whereby to prevent their displacement.

With the device in a pocket as just described, pencils, rules and the like, projected into the pocket and between the body plate 5 and spring loops 17, will be securely held from accidental displacement and loss.

From this it will be seen that my improved device embodies only three parts which coperate in a simple and effective manner, to produce the desired result.

I claim:

l. In a pocket holder of the character described, the combination of a body plate, a movable hinged clamping plate, and a clasping wire extending through said body plate and having a series of angular loops against one surface thereof, and provided with p ortions forming a hinge for said clamping plate, and with sharpened ends movable toward and away from said body plate by the movement of said clamping plate.
