COIN-TRAY.

To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEONARD I. BUSSEY and ELLIs R. LIPPINCOT'I, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Coin- Trays, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a new and useful improvement in coin trays, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character whereby the tray may be readily and easily tipped so that the coins therein will slide into the palm of the persons hand operating the tray.
By the use of our improved tray a person may readily take his change although he have but one hand free to use or if he has gloves on his hands. It does away with the tedious operation of picking the coins from a fiat surface one at a time.
IVith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, we will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of one form of coin tray made in accordance with our improvement. Fig. 2, a similar View of the tray tipped showing a hand in dotted lines ready to receive the coins. Fig. 3, a similar view of another form of our coin tray. Fig. 4, a side elevation thereof showing it in its tipped position.
In carrying out our invention as here embodied, A represents the tray proper having upwardly extending sides orfianges B extending partially around the tray so as to form an opening O. This tray may be made in any desired shape, the main object being to form a coin holder with the front portion open.
With the tray proper is formed the base D, having a flat bottom surface as indicated by F, so that it will sit upon a flat surface such as a counter, holding the tray in a horizontal position. With this base is formed the forwardly extending tongue G, which holds a position below and forward of the open end of the tray proper, so that when the back of a persons hand is laid upon the upper surface of the forwardly extending flange G, the palm of the hand will be just beneath the opening of the tray, then by pressing downward on said tongue the tray will be tipped so that the coins will slide therefrom through the open portion and into the hand.
In the form of tray shown in Figs. 3 and 4, we provide a tray A of any suitable shape, having the flange B extending partially around the same, so that an opening C is formed at the front end thereof, and to this is secured the wire base D so bent as to form the forwardly extending tongue E, against which the back of the hand is adapted to rest for tipping the tray to receive the coins placed therein.
Of course we do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, is-
A change tray comprising aflat bottom tiltable base, a tray proper rigidly fastened to said base at the rear thereof, the base being inclined upwardly at the rear to leave a clearance between said tray proper and said base.
