Description

COMBINE D PAD EY, 1 1 APPLICATION A I FILED JUNBG' lglzNDRPAPER ENEWED AP Pate llted A JOHN JOSEPH RADLEY, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y'.
COMBINED PAD-HOLDER AND PAPER-WEIGHT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914.
Application filed .Tune 6, 1912, Serial No. 702,055. Renewed April 8, 1914. Serial 110.830,534.
T0 all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, JOHN JosErH RADLEY, citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Combined Pad-Holders and Paper-Veights, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in combination pad holder and paper weight, which may be provided with a pen rack and the panels may be used for advertising purposes, and is primarily intended for the holding of memorandum slips in which the uppermost sheet projects beyond the lower` so that it may easily be picked up.
This device may be provided at its rear end with a compartment to receive cards or calendar cards to show the date. The principal compartment is formed with sides and the rear end closed with a wall set at an angle in which the top edge is thrown forward so that where the memorandum slips are placed therein the upper sheets are thrown forward, so that the edge may be easily grasped, the front end being entirely open. The upper side of the case may cover the entire top. The bottom of the case consists of a wedge shaped base with the open end at the thick end of the wedge, so that the compartment and bottom' incline toward the back, at an angle so that the ends of the loose pads are raised sufficiently to give the fingers free action. The rear end of the case is thrown forward at an angle of about 4o degrees, and is intended to force the upper sheets. forward, beyond the line of the lower sheets, to facilitate the withdrawal of the upper sheets. The top of the case, may
lcover the entire main compartment or may be made to cover only a portion of the same to leave free space, so that the fingers may have room to grasp the .upper sheet, in its withdrawal. The sides of the case are ex tended above the top to provide a pcnrack. It is my intention to utilize the upper side and the sides of the base for advertisingr purposes, as shown in the drawing.
Figure l illustrates a perspective View of the device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view show ing sheets of memoranda in the position in which they lie, the upper layers being forced forward by the inclined rear wall, and showing date cards in the rear pocket. and the pen rack. Fig. 3 is a side view of the device without the rear date card pocket.
The device A may be made of any material, but I prefer to have it made of pressed glass, with the base portion b solid, so that it may have the desired weight.
The bottom portion of the device is rectangular in shape with the front end e of the principal compartment open and so formed on the wedge-shaped base Z), that the sheets g are raised at the forward end to prevent them from'slipping out too easily.
The top portion, as shown, is made to partially cover the main compartment and extends in a forward direction terminating at the point f, and said top may be ornamented in any desirable way, or may be used for an advertisement. The rear portion of the device is inclined upwardly and forwardly, as shown at and is provided with `an upwardly projecting rear pocket C of any suitable shape, to receive date cards or which may be used as a retainer for memoranda.
It is obvious that the sheets are to be loose and not attached to each other in any manner.
l/Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A combined paper weight and memorandum` sheet holder consistingr of a single piece comprising. a rectangular body having a compartment formed therein and having a solid wedge-shaped base portion, whereby the bottom of said compartment is gradually inclined downward from the front to the rear portion thereof, and the rear wall of the compartment being inclined forward and upward and the compartment being open at the front end, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
-42. A combined paper. weight andmemo randum sheet holder consisting of a single piece comprising` a rectangular body having a compartment formed therein and having a solid wedge-shaped base portion, whereby said compartment is gradually inclined downward from the front to the rear, and
the rear Wall of the compartment, being in Signed at New York cify in the conty of,
. clned lforward and upward, said compari; New York and State of New York `thi 3d ment being open at the front end, and a comday of April A. D.'1912.
partment formed on the top of the rear por@ J OHN JOSEPH RADLEY. tion of the body and integral therewith, Witnesses: l
substantially as described and for the pur- WM. Ji SLOANE,
pose set forth. l JOHN REP..
