Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may coacern:
Be it known that I, FRANK EUGENE ERIoKsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marquam, in the county of Clackamas and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Window-Sash Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to window sash holders, and it has for its object to provide one which can be manufactured at little expense and one that may be readily secured in a recess in a window sash. Wheels are provided which project through an opening in a plate of the holder, to engage the window jamb when it is raised, there being a bolt which projects through a slot in a spring member engaging the wheels, a nut engaging the bolt and pressing on the spring member to retard the rotation of the wheels, which permits of the adjustment of the holder for a light or heavy sash.
Still other objects of the invention will appear in the following complete descrip tion.
In this specification I will describe the preferred form of my invention, it being understood that the scope of the invention is defined in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a window frame and a sash, the jamb of the window frame being shown partly in section to exhibit my window sash holder; Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of my holder; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that in a window sash 21, is cut a recess 6 in which my holder is disposed, the window sash 21 having countersunk portions 7 in which the upper and lower terminals of a plate 8 are disposed and are securely fastened, preferably by means of screws 9. The plate 8 has an opening 10 with projecting lugs or cars 11, one disposed at each side of the opening 10. In the ears or lugs 11, are recesses 12 which serve as bearings for a pin 13. Two wheels 14 are mounted on this pin 13, the wheels 14 being spaced from each other. At one end of the plate 8 there is secured a spring member 15, which has a tongue 16 pressing against the pin 13 between the wheels 14. A second spring member 17 is secured to the plate 8 at its other end, this spring member 17 having its outer terminal bifurcated to form arms 18 which press against the wheels 14 respectively. A bolt 19 is secured to the plate 8 and projects between the arms 18, a nut 20 being provided to engage this bolt 19, the nut 20 pressing against the arms 18 to regulate the pressure of the spring member 17 against the wheels 14.
As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the peripheries of the wheels 14 project through the opening 10 in the plate 8. When my holder is constructed and is secured in the recess in a window sash, as has been described, the peripheries of the wheels 14 will project through the opening 10 in the plate 8 and will engage the side of the window jamb 5, to hold the window sash at the desired height.
My holder may be readily adjusted for light or heavy sashes for, by adjusting the nut 20 on the bolt 19, the pressure exerted by the spring member 17 on the wheels 14 may be regulated, so that when heavy sashes are used the arms 18 will bear heavily against the wheels 14 and, as the wheels 14 press against the side of the window jamb 5, the wheels 14 will be caused to rotate as the sash 21 is raised or lowered. The spring member 15 presses the pin 13 toward the plate 8, thereby making certain that the wheels 14 will press agalnst the side of the window sash 21.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
