Be it knownthat I, REUBEN C. Lonen- Nnu, a citizen of the L'nited States, resi-ding at Johnstown, in the count-y of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVindow-Shade Brackets, of which the follmving isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvements 1n brackets for the roller shades of windows and doors in houses, street cars, railway coaches and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide a' simple and practical shade roller bracket which will enable the roller to be quickly and easily a )plied and removed and which will effectively hold the roller and prevent it from jumping out of the brackets.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved shade roller bracket; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view showing the hinge member in its normal position in full lines and in its retracted position in dotted lines; F ig. 4 isa front elevation of the base member; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the hinge member: and Fig. 6 is a similar view of the spring.

My improved bracket is designed for supporting the squared or flattened journal of the shade roller and it consists of three parts, namely, a base member 1, a hinge member 2, and a. spring member 3. The base 1 is in the form of a lat plate adapted to be placed against the window frame and to be secured thereto by screws or the like passed through apertures 4 formed in it. The outer vertical edge of the base plate 1 is formed with two tongues which are bent inwardly to provide pivot loops er eyes 5 as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The hinge member-Qis of right angular form and has its outer arm 6 formed adj a cent to its 'end with a convex portion 7 which is stamped inwardly and has a centrally arranged rectangular opening 8 to receive the journal or pin upon the shade roller. The inner arm V9 of the hinge memberis flat and formed in the center of its inner edge is a notch or recess 10 which provides two projections 11. The inner arm 9 is also formed with oppositely projecting pivot pins or pintles 1'2 .which ai'e disposed adjacent to the angle of the hinge member and which are adapted to enter and rotate in the pivot loo )s or eyes 5 of the base member to hingedly mount the member 2 upon the latter.

The arm 9 of the hinge member is ada )ted to lie flat against the outer face of the ase member or plate 1 and is retained thereon by the spring 3 which is in the form of ailat resilient strip or plate that has one of its ends secured as at 13 upon the. base plate or member 1. The opposite end of the spring 3 projects into the recess or notch 10 between the. pro 70` jections 11 and bears upon the outer' face of the inner portion of the arm 9 of the hinge member to press said arm against the base member and thereby hold the arm 6 in a plane at right angles to the base member.

In using the bracket the shade roller has its round journal or pinengaged with the ordinary bracket in the usual manner and its squared journal or pin is then engaged with the aperture 8 in the arm G of the hinge member of my improved bracket by pressing'said arm 6 outwardly as indicated in dotted linesv in Fig. 3. Said arm is pressed outwardly a dist-ance suflicient to allow said journal or pin on the shade roller to enter the aperture or 35 opening S whereupon the arm 6 is released so that the spring 3 will again press the arm 9 against the base plate 1 and move'the arm 6 inwardly to its normal position. From the foregoing it will be seen that when the squared journal or pin of the shade roller is fastened by my improved bracket it will be impossible for the roller to spring out of the brackets and that at the same time it maybe quickly and easily applied to and removed from the brackets by simply swinging thearm 6 of the hinge member outwardly.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. A shade roller bracket comprising a base plate provided with pivot eyes, a right angular hinge member having an outer arm provided with means to support one end ofa shade roller and an inner arm adapted to lie llat against the outer face of the base plate, 103k pivots adjacent to the angle of the hinge member and arranged for rotation in the pivot eyes upon the base member, and a flat eaf spring secured at one of its ends upon the outer face of the base plate and having its other end bearing upon the outer face of the inner arm of the hinge member to press the fthe into said notch. or rerpnrtono whereof I hereunto affix my f hvo Witnesses.
