DISPLAY-FORM.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 16, 1910.
Application led April 27, 1905, Serial No. 257,785. Renewed February 5, 1910. Serial No. 542,293.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED FonrAR ALLIsoN, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Display-Forms; and I hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to a display form, for exhibiting ladies wearing' apparel such as blouses, corset covers, vests, neck wear etc., consisting essentially of a pedestal and a display member, having the contour or shape of a female bust, supported thereby; and the objects of the invention are to so construct the display member that any number of them4 can be stacked or nested together, so as to occupy as small a space as possible for transportation, storage and other purposes, and to so arrange the pedestal that it can be detachably connected to the display member to support it in its display position or to be detached therefrom.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and to the accompanying draw ings in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of the display form looking at it from the front. Fig. 2 is a similar view looking at it from the rear. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the display member looking at it from the rear. Fig. t is a sectional view showing several display members stacked or nested together.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specifications and drawings.
The display member consists of a thin shell a of uniform thickness and made preferably of a plastic material embossed or molded so that its front surface will be fashioned to represent a womans bust, and its ba ck surface will have a correspondingly shaped unoccupied cavity so that several display members can be stacked together, as shown in F ig. l. The shape of the display member may be described as consisting of a neck portion b, consisting of a thin curved band and less in circumference than a semicircle, sloping shoulder portions c extending laterally from the base of the sides of the neck portion c and curved at their outer ends to merge into converging sides c of the body of the display member, a waist portion c, the sides of which form a eontinuation of the converging sides of the body portion, and a breast portion confined between the sloping' shoulder portions and sides of the body portion sloping forwardly and downwardly and then downwardly and rearwardly to the waist portion. The edges of the shoulder, body and waist portions are slightly flattened to permit a second display member correspondingly formed entering the unoccupied recess at the back of the shell and forming a close contact with all of the parts of the same. The display member is preferably made of papier-mch or other plastic material capable of being molded to the required shape in a wet condition and which will, when dried, retain its molded form, and in the molding` of the display member the back of the shell is formed so that the edges of the neck, shoulder, body, and waist portions will be slightly flattened and of a shallow formation to permit of two or more display members being nested together so as to keep the space equal only to the dimensions of the surface of the first display member plus the thickness of the number of display members nested together. By forming the display member in this way, a very large number of display mem bers of equal size can be stored or transported in a very small space, and can be employed to exhibit garments under substantially the same conditions of appearance as they would assume when in use.
In the back of the display member a are two hinge members g to receive the hinge members 71. of the pedestal z' which may be described as consisting of a base j having a standard 7c of the requisite height 'to support the display member in an inclined position and forked supporting members Z at the upper end of the standard having inclined rests m to engage the back of the display member and maintain it at its proper inclination. The hinge members it preferably constitute an integral part of the inclined rests m and when the parts of the display form are assembled are contained in the hinge members g to artieulatingly fasten the display member to the standard so that it may be maintained in its display position.
The pedestal is preferably constructed of two or more wire strands properly shaped, to form the base j and the standard le, and of sufficient strength and rigidity to maintain the display member properly positioned. The forked members of the standard are shaped to form inclined rests to engage the rear face of the display member Cfr and hold it at an inclination to the standard, and at the ends of the forked members are the outturned hinge members 7L to enter the hinge members g. The resiliency of the wire strands allows the forked members to spring asunder so that the outturned hinge members 7L will enter the hinge members g and remain within them until the forked members have been contracted to withdraw the hinge members It to effect the separation of the pedestal from the display member.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A display device comprising a display member formed ofla thin shell of uniform thickness, and composed of a body portion having converging sides, a curved neck portion, sloping shoulder portions extending laterally from the sides of the neck portion and curved at their outer ends to merge into the sides of the body portion, a waist portion having its sides in continuation of the sides of the body portion, a breast portion confined between the sides of the shoulder, body and waist portions sloping downwardly and forwardly and then downwardly and rearwardly to shape the front of the display member to correspond with a womans ligure, the display member having at the back of the shell an unoccupied cavity corresponding in shape and measurements with the front to receive therein a second display member of the same size and shape, the edges of the neck, shoulder, body and waist portions being devoid of obstructions to permit the entry of the second display member into the unoccupied cavity, and a' pedestal to support the display member comprising a base portion, a standard for the base portion having its upper end forked and formed to provide two hinge members, the forked portion of the standard being bent forwardly and then rearwardly to form a support which will engage the shell of the display member and hold it in its fixed position, and hinge parts connected to the shell of the display member to engage with the hinge members of the pedestal.
