Description

pam ont.
WILLIAM WESTLAKE, for oHIo-Aeo, ILLINOIS.
Letters' Patent No. 96,645, dated .November 9, 1869.
LAMP-B 'URN ER.
A The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same. Y
Toall whom lit may concern..-
'Be it known that I, WILLIAIII WESTLAKE, of Chicago, in the State of Illinois, have invented certain Ydetached from the collar upon the lamp; and, when the lamp is filled, it becomes necessary either to hold the burner in one hand, leaving only one hand with lwhich to handle the vessel holding the oil or Huid, or,
in order to have beth hands at liberty to use in handling the oil-can, the burner, with the wick, must he wholly. removed from the lamp, and laid doivn.
The object of my invention is to so construct `the burner and collar, that the burner, when the lamp is filling, may be hung upon or attached to the collar of the lamp, leaving 'both hands at liberty to handle the oil-can. A represents the collar, which is secured to the lamp, n nd B represents the burner. .These parts are constructed in the usual manner, except as hereafter mentioned.
In iig. 1-
a, is a pin, permanently secured to the collar A.
c represents the wick-tube. In one or both sides of this tube., and at the lower end thereof, I make a hole', d, tig. 3, by means of which the burner can be hung upon the hook or pin a, leavf,
ing the wick in the lamp while the lamp is being filled, thus leaving both hands at liberty to handle the oilcil/ll.
Instead of the hole d, anveye, b, (see figs. 2 and 4,) may be soldered to the underside of the burner, by means of which to hang the burner on the pin a.
,The same obj eet may be accomplished in still another manner, as shown in ligs. 5 and (i, e being asocket in` the colarA, and f being a pin fastened to the under side of the burner, the burner being hung upon the coll ir, by inserting the pin f into the socket e.
It is evident that other similar means might be employed to accomplish the saine object.
By making the point or end of the pin a sharp, and
allowing it to project a little above the top of the collar, the wick might be hooked upon the pin a, dispens ing with the eye or socket upon the burner.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-Y ters Patent, is f 1. The application of a pin or hook to a. lamp-burneror collar, substantially as and for the purpose mentioned.
2. The hook or pin a, in combination with the socket or ,catch d, when applied to lamp-burners, substantially as specified.
